The new audiovisual network Fiber Festival took place last Saturday and left me with mixed impressions. Initially, I was a bit disappointed as I had expected a massive audiovisual spectacle. After walking around for a while and taking some time for the installations on show (which perfectly blended into the backdrop of De Verdieping) and seeing a few performances including an 8-bit electro and dubstep set played on just two Gameboys, I eventually left feeling satisfied.

Amsterdam often seems to be one big construction site; buildings are torn down and rebuilt, roads are repaved and new bridges are built. Everybody who was clever enough to attend will confirm: the Overdose.am x Cassette Jam Session in Club Up last week was a great success. The musicians had never met before, but quickly found eachother through the jazzy vibes and electronic bleeps and beats. Het Kabinet festival in twelve pictures

'Het Kabinet festival', last weekend at Studio/K started with waiting in line for an hour with tons of people in the freezing cold, with only a distant techno beat and the thought of seeing techno legend Matthew Jonson live keeping me warm. After some body parts had almost frozen off, I finally got inside and rushed to get myself a whisky and on the dance floor to get my blood flowing again. Looking around was overwhelming: rooms filled with sequencers, synths, all kinds of guitars and, in one room, a fairly disturbing horror film.
