Cheerful tracks filled with vocals and deep danceable party records. HAARBAARBAAR‘s style ranges from deep and tech house to indie dance and nu-disco. Or how he and many others like to call it: underground pop. After quickly growing a fan base online he had to make the switch to real dance floors, which finnaly happened in the summer of 2011. Inspiration comes from artists such as David August, Seth Troxler, Todd Terje, Jamie Jones, Tensnake, Solomun en Soul Clap. Perfect mixtape for this sunny week right? (..more)
Rene Engel (A.K.A. De Nachtwacht) is a name that has risen from the underground to the bigger stages. Bram Fidder is a promising DJ-talent from Amsterdam’s house scene. Only 19 years old, he has already played almost every club and party location in the Dutch capital. His big break-through came in 2011, when he did an excellent set at Voidd in the main room of a sold out Studio 80. He proved to be able to hold his ground in a line up of international DJ stars, and since then he has been able to secure several residencies in Amsterdam’s nightlife. Not only in one of the prominent clubs of the city, Studio 80, but also at Lazy Sundays – famous for it’s legal and illegal underground parties. (..more)
From Holland’s thriving electronic music scene, yet another promising artist steps into the limelight. Edwin started DJing in the East of Holland, where he was studying to be an engineer and first met his friend and future musical partner in crime Joris Voorn. The two of them started Rejected – a production outfit, DJ team and label. He is now touring the world with his own contemporary take on the sound he has been representing since the early nineties – as Rejected and by himself. Awakenings, Fabric and Panoramabar are only the beginning! (..more)
This mix is a recording of Freddy Spool‘s set at Loodzwaar, two weeks ago in a warehouse in Amsterdam west. The Vrijbuiters front man is someone who has been around the block a few times already; he knows what how to please the crowds at beach parties, night clubs and underground raves. This set is more dirty than than his normal work, but this is how he felt at that moment. (..more)
Kid Culture is one of the more exciting prospects to emerge from Amsterdam’s fertile scene at the moment. Heroes like Luciano, Ricardo Villalobos, Laurent Garnier, Solomun and Carl Graig are just a few of the DJs spinning his records, and 2011 gigs at Awakenings, Extrema Outdoor, Solar, Tresor, Sonar are more proof of his rising stock. His sound is hard to put a tag on, but damn funky. (..more)
Befriended in high snowy mountains, collaborated in Amsterdam below sea level; Robert Mulder and Juri Miralles agree in musical flavour resulting in a complementary duo behind the decks: KERK! (CHURCH!). Keeping the 1s and 2s rolling with bass driven house and sexy techno is a simple interpretation of their output. For this Easter Monday they went extra deep. Deeper than usual. “It’s as deep as it gets when Jezus stood up from his grave and disappeared.” (..more)
Chris Julien now hosts the young yet infamous Backstage night at Chicago Social Club after throwing Katapult at Studio 80 for over three years; he knows a party when he sees it. A steady presence in clubs, a host of mixtapes and a monthly radio show POP CTRL on Red Light Radio have given Chris’ wide-ranging love for electronic music an outspoken presence in Amsterdam. He sports a sound as intelligent as it is humorous, fusing the hypnotic grooves of deep-house with the appealing hooks of pop music. It’s a combination that intrigues the connoisseurs and charms the crowd. (..more)
Jean Pierre Enfant defined his style by merging puristic techno with dark and raw minimal influences. If you are in definite need to put a tag on this Amsterdam based artist, then mix Detroit, New York, Berlin & Chicago with the housy, the dark and the slightly paranoid sides of techno. Being the founder and host of the ‘Les Enfants Terribles‘ parties, Jean Pierre Enfant is resident at TrouwAmsterdam. Here he establishes a coherent feeling with his warm techno vibe and the borderless clubbing experience of LET. Right in the heart of one of the world’s club capitals. (..more)
This Portuguese-born Dutch national has a cheeky charm about him that is difficult to escape and which works so well in his favour when taking control of the decks in a club. There is constant eye contact, an almost flirtatious vibe going on with the crowd, a sort of positive energy that wins you over almost instantly. You can feel that Nuno is utterly in love with what he does. This Saturday he will perform at our indoor festival Next Monday’s Hangover – Garden of Eden, and today we publish his Mixtape Monday to warm you all up! (..more)
Du Chatinier is an upcoming Amsterdam based DJ/Producer. His major influence are the early years of house music, with heroes such as Sneak and Phil Weeks. The best way to describe his sound is Raw & Funky House. This young and talented producer has put his main focus on producing for the last several months and you’ll probably hear this soon enough. (..more)
Not your avarage Mixtape Monday this week, but a four hour extravaganza by Mike Ravelli and Miss Melera. The duo who are successful as a duo but also individually should not be strangers to Amsterdam’s clubbers. They started their cooperation in Haarlem’s Club Stalker and have since frequented the underground GZG parties as well as many clubs around town. For us, they recorded their anniversary set at Club Stalker which features four hours of house and techno sounds! (..more)
Man of the moment Simon Weiss in the spotlight this week! After making some fame in and around Amsterdam as an innovative slo-mo house DJ and producer he landed a spot on the Amsterdam All Stars compilation of legendary house label Rush Hour recently. This weekend Quentin van Honk won the 2012 edition of the TWSTd DJ contest for new talents. Coincidentally, we already had him planned in for this week’s Mixtape Monday. Together with his buddy Minz that is. They have recently started producing together and also launched a new live act. Normally their styles are quite different, but they’ve found a middleground that combines Minz’s deep techno with Quentin’s groove. Enjoy! (..more)
DJ and Producer Wouter de Moor is one of those guys who conquers the world with a smile. His list of releases is growing at a steady pace with tracks on various big imprints. From Amsterdam’s Bla Bla and Remote Area, to 90 Watts and Paco Osuna’s Spanish Mindshake, label owners are all very pleased to welcome him to their firms. Naturally this has lead to a packed dj-agenda with gigs all over Holland, but also in South Korea, China, Spain, London and the infamous Cocoon club in Frankfurt. (..more)
Youngster Michiel Tettero (20) is on Mixtape Monday duty this week. He may be just 20, but after already making his club debut in Haarlem’s Club Stalker back in 2006 you could say he has already been noticed. His style could be described as a mix between house, tech-house, deep house, jazz and techno with phat grooves and inciting rhythms and hi-hats. Not an everyday blend, but certainly a tasteful one. He has recently released his first EP, in collaboration with Camiel Daamen, Everybody EP (PiekUp Records) and more will follow soon.. (..more)
Groovy techno or funk with a drive is what you can expect when Levi Verspeek plays his music. This Amsterdam born and raised kid made his first techno track in 2010, Hurken, which was instantly picked up by the likes of techno legend Dave Clarke. He even played it in the best of 2010 edition of his radio show White Noise. In 2011 he became a TWSTd finalist which resulted in a Sugar Factory residency; the future is bright for Levi! (..more)
This week we have the youngest member of the Dekmantel collective in Mixtape Monday: Michael Jacques. His DJ sets vary from house to techno and everything in between, and the successful club night BlackOut he hosts together with Thomas Martojo and Casper Tielrooij has already had artists like Julio Bashmore, Prosumer, Levon Vincent and Kerri Chandler over in its short lifetime. Next up for BlackOut: UK house pioneer Joy Orbison on February 10th. This man knows his music! (..more)
New kid on the electronic music block No Reset is definitely not new to music in general. Like every true musician (according to all their biographies at least), he already owned his first guitar as a 14-year old and by the time he was 18 his résumé was packed with punk and pop-rock bands. Fast forward to today and the morgen.am DJ has replaced his six-strings with laptops and mixers, and the future is looking bright! (..more)
According to my inside sources, this week’s Mixtape Monday chef is not only good in the musical kitchen but also a star in the culinary one. Our guest is Prunk, a name that keeps popping up in house oriented line-ups around the Dam. Rumour has it he owned his first vinyl record at age eleven and that he already started producing at the tender age of sixteen. Prunk’s musical style has been going in a lot of different directions in recent years, but he has now settled on a sound that he wants to present with this mix. Enjoy! (..more)
DJ sets by Jorn Liefdeshuis are a mixed bag. In terms of musical styles, that is. He’s all for breaking down barriers, so he spins R&B next to techno and mixes dubstep with house. In 2005, the now 25 year-old DJ started his Pixel concept at the fabled club 11 that closed its doors in 2008. Jorn continued to advertise his gospel of ‘romantic club music’ via his Bar Weinig (punning in Dutch: Hardly Anything) nights, Off Centre festival and since January 2011 the monthly Closer nights at Melkweg. As the holiday season comes closer and winter creeps into town we find ourself in need of a good soundtrack for these dark and cold days. Of course we always aim to please our dear readers here at Overdose.am, so we have something ready for you: Mirella Kroes’ December Mix. The DJ known for her taste for the deeper side of house and techno put together a genre-defying set filled with just songs she loves. Turn the heater up to 25°C, crawl back between the sheets and press PLAY! (..more)
John Wolff describes himself as the guy that always has to control the music at his friends’ parties. That could’ve made him very annoying, but luckily he knows what he is doing. After collecting music for many years John’s career as a DJ kicked off with a gig at Shoeless Open Air in 2010, after which many more followed, including this year’s Mystery Land. Happy Monday! (..more)
People who frequent off the grid raves in warehouses and other obscure places in Amsterdam have probably experienced one of Ferdinand’s sets already. He’s been a regular on the line-up of many raves around town, and if he wasn’t the one behind the decks he was probably the guy going crazy next to you on the dance floor. He closed off the morgen.am area with his deep techno tunes at our last own event: Midnight Wonderland. (..more)
Followers of Overdose.am should be familiar with our weekly ‘guide to the night’ called Next Monday’s Hangover and the events we organize under the same name. The main man behind the guide, the artists we book for the NMH events and our main resident DJ is Ridz aka Some Chemistry. He warmed up the main room for H.O.S.H. and Robert Babicz at our most recent event Midnight Wonderland and we have the recording of that set for you today. (..more)
A DJ that will remain unnamed failed to properly survive the weekend and deliver everything needed for this week’s edition of Mixtape Monday on time. So, once again, I’m publishing an article with Monday in its name on Tuesday. I won’t complain though, I wish I had that kind of heavy artist lifestyle! Studio 80 resident Gideon Bouwens jumped in, saved the day, and made sure we don’t start this week music-less, with a last-minute set especially made for the cold pre-winter days we’re in right now. Brrr! (..more)
On a cold Monday like this we can all use some warm music to get our body temperature up again. With Mike Ravelli behind the decks this should be no problem though. This DJ from Haarlem has quite a track record in Amsterdam. Gigs at many GZG editions, Shoeless, Mystery Land, Studio 80 all reside on his résumé. This mixtape is a tour through the record bag of this vinyl collector. Enjoy! (..more)
Today is all about Satori. After the interview with him we published earlier today, a podcast was the logical thing to follow. For this weeks Mixtape Monday edition, Satori hit the studio for a jam session with the jazz pianist that is also part of his live set-up: Fat Fingers. The result is a set going into depth with a focus on what Satori calls sphere. What that feels like and means is something I’ll let you experience for yourself. Just hit the play button below! The DJ duo Lustige Lola & Weltschmerz was born in 2005, after its members Sanne and Elant discovered their shared passion for nu-disco and house (while on a trip to Berlin of course). This podcast for Overdose.am was inspired by a wicked weekend of DJing in Charlatan, Ghent; AIR, Amsterdam and the Design Week in Eindhoven. In their set you will find music by the likes of Solomun, Benoit & Sergio and Maceo Plex. Enjoy! (..more)
Wait? It’s Tuesday already? ADE must have really messed up ONNO´s perception of time.. But who can blame him. I’m guessing half of Amsterdam is still nursing a massive hangover right now. I’m very pleased to have ONNO this week, as he is conquering the world in a rapid pace. With gigs at Watergate, The Panorama Bar and even in Miami, and releases which are supported by the likes of Marco Carola, Matthias Tanzmann and Tiefschwarz to name just a few you can say he is winning. Did I mention he is playing at our upcoming night festival Midnight Wonderland yet? (..more)
The talented La Vondèl recorded a live set containing only his own songs for this week’s Mixtape Monday. The genre-defying producer is only at the start of his career, but he is so addicted to the studio that he can already fill hours and hours of music with just his own productions. He recently joined up with morgen.am, a new electronic music collective tied to Overdose.am, and will perform on morgen.am’s debut at our upcoming festival Next Monday´s Hangover – Midnight Wonderland. Go check him out! (..more)
Olivier Weiter, house music’s very own shaman. We are obviously a fan of the man, as we booked him to close our NMH festival in August, and we have invited him back for more at our new event Midnight Wonderland that we announced today. To learn more about Mr. Weiter, I advice you to read the interview I did with him recently. He made this week very melodic Mixtape Monday, which should keep you happy until the weekend sets in again. (..more)
Had a good weekend? In need of some uplifting music after seeing today’s cloud filled sky? We have another Mixtape Monday ready for your needs. Made by Maarten Bloem this week, one of the guys behind Detroit house and techno inspired concept Subway. His set is called Running for a reason, as Maarten is preparing for the New York marathon which he is running in support of KWF. You can support his cause by partying by the way; charity has never been this much fun! (..more)
As a former resident of the notorious former DJ-bar TWSTd, Tim is a mainstay in Amsterdam’s techno scene. With gigs at Awakenings and Rockit amongst others you know his career is going places. His productions have been gaining ground too and got the support of masters of the trade such as Steve Rachmad and Josh Wink. It’s time for the hour of the wolff! (..more)

This week’s Mixtape Monday is a live recording from the last ever edition of Studio 80′s Katapult, a weekly event they’ve been residents of since before all this success. Volume up! (..more)
Prepare for a powerful start to the week as the man behind Schwung, Folker Zwart, presents you with this week’s Mixtape Monday. Folker is known for his filthy mix of rough and dark minimal and techno. His sound is a mixture of strong swinging bass lines and freaky sounds up to melodious parts. With his Schwung parties, he is trying to create a place where raw techno can stay pure for true music lovers, in underground locations without commercial interference. (..more)
There’s a new kid in town and his name is Quentin van Honk. ‘The Boy Wonder’, as his agency nicknamed him, isn’t afraid to state his ambitions and he is hungry to be heard. Clubs such as AIR, Studio 80, Sugar Factory, Chicago Social Club, Hotel Arena and Studio/K have already seen Quentin in action, and his productions recently caught the attention of Michel de Hey. Of course, we all like to form our own opinion about new talent, so we asked him to make us a podcast. Let us know what you think! (..more)
Boss & Harris are two guys who are on the way up. The duo started spinning records only two years ago but have already performed at places such as the Sugar Factory, Melkweg and Chicago Social Club. Their sound? The origins are in house and deep-house, but they’ve recently ventured into a more jacking tech-house direction. See them next at this weekends edition of Pleinvrees in AIR alongside David August, Joris Delacroix, Compuphonic and Arjuna Schiks amongst others. (..more)
Jack of all trades Tettero delivers the soundtrack of this years Lowlands hangover (for a lot of us at least). This Melkweg, AIR, Woodstock 69 (Bloemendaal) and Club Stalker (Haarlem) resident thrives in almost every setting but particularly excels in the disco, house and electro genres. I myself am a fan of the Foxes and Wolves nights in the Melkweg which he does with Tom Trago, Job de Wit and Casper Tielrooij. Enjoy! (..more)

Thomas Martojo made today’s Mixtape Monday. As a part of the Dekmantel Collective (founded in 2007 by three like-minded friends: Martojo, Casper Tielrooij & Jan van Kampen) he has done a lot of things in our little town. DJing everywhere, organizing events such as Nicolas Jaar in Paradiso and their two-day Kabinet festival, hosting areas at festival like Awakenings and managing a record label and booking agency. Yes, that is a lot! What Thomas likes to play includes house and techno, bits of UK stuff, the odd disco tune.. Listen to his podcast or check out Dekmantel Soundsystem at our festival next Sunday. (..more)
An artist from our upcoming festival Next Monday’s Hangover – Out in the open is serving you with your weekly dose of electronic music today: Daniel Zuur. He is trying to establish himself as a producer/live performer in Amsterdam, and with his first release and several gigs coming up, you can say he is doing all right at that. His sound can be described as deep techno, with each song having its own unique story told by exciting melodies and by warm beats. Unlike most techno, Daniel’s sound focusses more on building tension than on repetition which gives his sets a highly dynamic feeling. (..more)
KlapSandwich was the result of Bo Havermans and Martijn de Vries’ shared love for house and techno, and has been making name and fame in Amsterdam since 2008. With Studio80, Sugar Factory, Woodstock69, ClubUp and Kring on their resume, they have lifted many a foot from the dance floor. Their sound is the result of a search for the perfect balance between melody, rhythm, dark synths and joyous vocals. Curious? Future gigs are at Stekkerfest & ZomerPop, amongst others! (..more)
For this week’s Mixtape Monday, Troeble prepared a special musical stew for all our readers. His podcast is appropriately named after the traditional Brazilian dish Moqueca; his favourite dish during recent travels through South America. His next gig will be at our festival: Next Monday’s Hangover – Out in the open. And in the future as a resident DJ at more of our NMH events. (..more)
I should’ve known asking DJs to make a podcast during the weekend was a bad idea. Luckily the Watt brothers (Timothy Watt & Watt JR.) saved the day by jumping into the studio and delivering this “jackinghousefreakin’straightoutofthestudio-mix”. A day late, but nevertheless another great mix. If you like their sound, make sure you attend Overdose.am’s art-music-fashion summer festival Next Monday’s Hangover – Out in the open, because they’ll be making an appearance behind the decks. (..more)
God damn it’s hot; around 30 degrees of sizzling heat in Amsterdam today. You might known him from the Breakfast Club, or countless of other mainstream and/or underground parties in Amsterdam and the rest of the country; Tommy kills them all. During the next weeks, some more of his Soulrock buddies will be featured in this series as well, as we believe that warm weather calls for more deep and groovy music. Kick back, turn up the volume, enjoy! (..more)
