Every now and then I stumble upon a new hotspot at the most unexpected of places. Situated close to Central Station at the touristy Geldersekade, TOPSHIT is exactly such a spot. In a large building temporarily turned into creative hub, owners Fransje Christiaans and Jurjen Johans sell a fine selection of handpicked second-hand and vintage items. This selectivity is what sets the store apart and makes it feel like a stylist's closet rather than a shop. (..more)
We’re all sick if this weather. It’s ridiculous. I can’t stop sneezing and coughing, I still have to wear my winter coat and I instantly get a cold if I don’t wear a scarf. This is madness! I’m sooo ready for drinks in the park, watching people from the terrace and summer festivals. Luckily, the girls behind Krijg de Kleren! feel the same way. So why don’t we all just pretend it’s warm and maybe we’ll trick the sun into shining? (..more)
Cottoncake was born over a year ago out of a dream. But Jorinde and Tessa didn’t want to start just another fancy shop, they wanted to create one with a special feeling that would envelope you like a warm blanket when you entered. The influences that were to inspire Cottoncake’s perfect cappuccinos and beautiful fabrics were to come from all over the world and come together to make a dream reality. Now there’s food, fashion and art all in one shop. (..more)
I love interior design, and I like to believe that some day I’ll change my small and overcrowded room for something a little more magazine-worthy. Until then I have to stick to gazing at design blogs or, evenb better, discover stores in Amsterdam for some inspiration. Friday Next certainly is such a place. Located next to Marqt, this spacious concept store sells an interesting mix of items from Dutch designers, as well as Scandinavians or Italians. (..more)
Last Sunday, Overdose.am hosted the fifth edition of its now renowned Sunday delight: Zondagmiddag. The past few editions have demonstrated some of what you can expect in terms of fun, fashion, food and adventure but this time everything was bigger, better and busier than ever before. (..more)
Tired of all the parties? Suffering from a serious winter depression? Aching for an old-fashioned cosy get-together with friends? We have just the remedy for you! On March 24th, Overdose.am presents the most soothing event of the capital: Zondagmiddag. For this edition, we return to the place where it once all began: Amsterdam Roest. The rusty warehouse will be transformed into a true shopping Valhalla, where local designers, acoustic heroes and culinary fanatics join forces to offer you an unforgettable afternoon. (..more)
It’s been a while since I last wrote about fashion, but there’s no way I could keep this awesome event a secret. The last weekend of March Vintagegeneration and Trash&Treasures organize a massive vintage sale. Vintage and sale are probably two of my favourite words, especially when combined. The concept is simple but genius: one kilo clothing costs €15. Literally dive in tons of clothing to hunt for vintage treasures and pay for the weight of the fashion artifacts you found. (..more)
ANNA+NINA imports jewellery from all over the world to sell to (major) stores in The Netherlands. Last month they opened their own store in the heart of De Pijp. Founders Anna and Nina were initially looking for a showroom where potential customers could have a look at their stock. When they came across a great space at Gerard Doustraat they figured that instead of just a showroom, they could also realize their long-treasured dream and open their very own store. The result is a unique place with an assortment so diverse that it’s hard to categorize. (..more)
I’ve always loved the idea of having my own business, but actually establishing one? Well, I would have no clue where to start. Four brave students, who like me had no experience in running a company did take up the challenge. What started as a school project ended up in something that took over their lives. Fortunately their hard work paid off and a new brand was born: Shirtstories. Today, only five months after first meeting each other, the shirts are in store and the founders are optimistic about what the future may bring. (..more)
They both love underwear. Boxer shorts to be precise, not the sexy lace kind for women. Now I have to be honest, when I first heard about one of the most eccentric and famous footballers ever and the director of two of my favourite high paced and chaotic films (Lock Stock & Snatch) working together on a new boxer short brand and campaign for H&M I expected something hysterical. I just had a look at the ‘David Beckham Bodywear’ line though, and it is quite the opposite: modest, comfortable and classically styled. (..more)
