As you might have noticed, we recently visited Amsterdam Fashion Week. To all our new readers: welcome! As it was like one, tiring but awesome party to us we asked dear Manoah to make an aftermovie for us just, just like he always does for Next Monday’s Hangover. You get a chance to really see our ‘fashion squad’ in action (and by action I mean, wearing big sunglasses, walking around, smoking and sipping wine). I enjoyed it very much and hope you will too. Here are our highlights of Amsterdam Fashion Week! (..more)
Fashion Week ended last week but that doesn’t mean fashion in Amsterdam stops. On the contrary, this Tuesday evening Leonie Smelt presented her first independent collection, Perfect Darkness, on the top floor of De Waag. The vibe was cosy and intimate unlike Fashion Week’s intense atmosphere. Smelt’s work consists mainly out of black and metallic bronze with a lot of rectangular shapes and forms. (..more)
My monthly meeting with a designer. A moment about them, and their creative view on me. This month: Joline Jolink. She loves a good cup of coffee, tasty and good looking food, nature, enjoys documentaries about world famous designers and melancholic music like Fleet Foxes and The XX. Would live in a painting by Georgia o’Keeffe because of the pretty, colourful, sensual floral shapes. (..more)
Today, at the grand finale of Amsterdam Fashion Week, one of my evil wishes came true; I saw a model fall on the runway. But then again, her heels were one of the highest and coolest I’ve ever seen, so besides malicious pleasure I felt sorry for her as well. The closing show of Fashion Week was presented by LM Flower Fashion and showed the collections of Said Mahrouf and Dennis Diem. Mahrouf’s collection was simple, elegant, classy, and flowing whereas Diem’s collection was edgy, dark, daring, and with killer heels. (..more)
It’s Sunday and you’re hungover, angry at the world, at bartenders and most of all: yourself. No worries, we feel the same. That’s why we’ve invented a new item on Overdose.am: Sunday Roast. A bi-weekly ‘column’ that’s in fact more a conversation. A written one. Online. Every other Sunday, Mark (..more)
Last night I was decked out in leather because I was going to the Gestuz show at Amsterdam Fashion Week. Having checked out the brand a bit I knew I would look the part in a sheer skirt and leather jacket. But the show kinda made me regret my decision since the leather pieces they showed were a lot prettier than what I was wearing. But let’s forget about that. (..more)
There we were, out of the setting we are used to. Designer Alexa van Engelen of the label Sage and Ivy choose an antique mirror studio for her collection presentation. She chooses her locations carefully and always goes for the most special ones. The studio was located in an old building in Amsterdam. Many old mirrors adorned the old walls. It looked very Parisian. Subtle light and piano music completed the picture. (..more)
Marlene Dietrich is back! The wave shapes –but far more modern- the high thin eyebrows, and warm orange tones; something very recognisable. The look had to be mentioned, it was wonderful. But lovely Marlene Dietrich was not the inspiration for the Bravoure collection, the 20’s were. (..more)
After seeing Winde Rienstra‘s latest collection I have one comment: surreal! I liked the unconventional feel that made every piece special in its own way as much as it seemed unwearable in daily life. The models, living up to the challenge to return backstage without falling off their shoes, took careful steps to the gentle tune of the live harp music while wearing their beautifully, strange creations. Mini dresses made out of Concertina folded paper, Wooden cuirass worn over sheer dresses. (..more)
So, here you are! Its weekend! What to do, what to do? As I promised, I made a downtown schedule to make your Fashion Week weekend a memorable one. Get ready! (..more)
