CHIXPEDITION: Magneet Festival

Oct 16, 2012 |  by  |  Art, Event, Music

As the last festival of the season, Sab and Shar hit Magneet Festival. What we were expecting were some hippies on sandals. What we got were some used and unused condoms and a shitload of free cocktails. On this special day, where we thought that nothing was going the way (..more)

Guest of Honour: Diynamic's charming 'wunderkind' David August

Guest of Honour: Diynamic’s charming ‘wunderkind’ David August

David August, the 21 year old ‘wunderkind’ from Solomun’s Diynamic label. I fell in love with his music over a year ago, and every time I saw him playing this love grew a bit more. After I spoke a few words with David on WTTF I walked away with a lot of questions on my mind. My goal was to find out more about this by J.S. Bach inspired musical talent (..more)

Gipsy town De Parade is back in Amsterdam

Gipsy town De Parade is back in Amsterdam

I’d like to call it the circus for grown ups. Every year, De Parade returns to Amsterdam after being in Rotterdam, Den Haag and Utrecht. It causes me trouble falling asleep, butterflies in my stomach and checking the weather forecast 4 times a day… Walk around in the beautiful scenery of a gipsy village, watch theatre and people, shake your ass at the silent disco, drink sangria, bake your own 'poffertjes', giggling while you’re on the carousel. I know, sounds like fun right! (..more)

Amsterdam Fashion Week: Jan Boelo

Amsterdam Fashion Week: Jan Boelo

Fashion Week to me is a big bubble that's gotten blown up big a few weeks before the AIFW madness starts, and bursts just a few days after it ends. During that bubble even my down to earth self starts to dream about being a model, wearing all those beautiful masterpieces designed by geniuses. Known by most people as 'clothes'. A lot of wishful thinking. But as long as the bubble is still holding strong I would like to keep on dreaming about all the beautiful colours, fabrics and goodiebags.. (..more)

Flirting and splashing in bikini at BadBuiten

Flirting and splashing in bikini at BadBuiten

It’s taking a while, too long if you ask me. But hopefully, summer will be here soon. Now there are a lot of things to do when the sun is shining, and tanning and relaxing probably stand on top of your list. Since not everybody here in Amsterdam has a garden or balcony, you could consider the Vondelpark or Bloemendaal, but you might not want to sit there with the rest of Amsterdam smelling like weed and barbecue for the rest of the week, or like kids building sandcastles on your towel. Only 5 minutes cycling from the Amstel station is your alternative: BadBuiten. (..more)

Boozin' with Bea: daytime

Boozin’ with Bea: daytime

The best birthday to celebrate besides your own is without a doubt the Queen’s. A couple of very nice parties will be served to you in honour of Her Majesty. I wonder if she’d like them, but that’s pretty irrelevant. The Queen herself will be celebrating in Rhenen and Veenendaal, but I would highly recommend you to go boozin’ at the following parties in Amsterdam. God bless the Queen! (..more)

Local Rockstars: Kissing jellyfish with L'Atelier

Local Rockstars: Kissing jellyfish with L’Atelier

I have personally known Gijs, one half of L’Atelier, since high school. Well actually, I knew Gijs in high school. I can’t really remember ever seeing him after that again. Gijs was the kind of kid who always wore the newest clothes, like those Nudie Jeans who were never washed before. You could put a key or shell in it, and then let it wear through your jeans. After a meeting with my closet for probably two hours I met up with Gijs (again) and Paul to talk about their upcoming gigs and popularity. (..more)

Local Rockstars: Mike Ravelli about his Italian roots and his new clubnight

Local Rockstars: Mike Ravelli about his Italian roots and his new clubnight

Mike Ravelli already loved techno when he was just a little kid. He and his cassettes where big homies. So when Mike recieved a real Jeff Mills EP, you can imagine what happend… It wasn’t long after that when Mike had his first gig in Club Stalker in his home town Haarlem. His gigs where notices by the GZG colletive and after that things started happening fast with Mike. This friday Mike has a gig in Studio 80, in a night he co-hosts, with British DJ A Guy Called Gerald from the UK. Enough reason to meet up with this young blond music spinning god. (..more)
