It’s finally time for Het Alternatief!

It’s finally time for Het Alternatief!

While everybody is talking about ‘what are you going to do during Queensday?’, it’s better to talk about ‘what are you going to do the day before Queensday?’. You have the chance to spread the celebrations in two days! Amsterdam Roest is opening its doors after a long hibernation period and they don’t want to do this without a proper celebration. This Sunday, Roest is joining forces with Cassette Collectief to offer you this alternative… It’s finally time for Het Alternatief! (..more)

Edits' last eight art works are revealed

Edits’ last eight art works are revealed

May 26, 2011 |  by  |  Art

Two months ago, I told you about the last call for Edits, where young designers made a chance to be exhibited at Amsterdam's Central Station. The results are now here! I went to the opening last Monday, where eight young designers presented their work. The art works all had to be inspired by a participating museum. This could be by an object from the permanent collection, by the building itself, or it could be a translation of their personal vision of a museum. (..more)

Mixed feelings arise when a camera is suddenly in my face during a night out. It annoys me, but at the same time I try to strike a ‘funny face pose’. Generally this leads to nothing, but what the hell. Clearly, I’m talking about event photography: an overlooked part of photography not to be confused with a piece of art. I’d rather see this as regular, but funny photos that give a decent overview of the night. No more, no less. (..more)

Let your imagination work at the Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival

Let your imagination work at the Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival

Two weeks ago I promised you a personal guide through all the themes that the 27th Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival incorporates. Well, here it is! The festival has a big selection of short and long films, therefore I picked the ones which caught my attention. On top of that there’s some tickets to win once more, this time for Rubber and Gone with the Pope. If you don’t want to miss a thing and read about all the films, or you want to see the trailers, check out all the movies from A till Z and get some real imaginable films. (..more)

Take the 'Last Train to the Inevitable Beyond' with Dadara

Take the ‘Last Train to the Inevitable Beyond’ with Dadara

What if I'd have a million Euros? A question that frequently haunts my head, and one that turns a lot of people into crazy dreamers. That happened to Dadara (Daniel Rozenberg) as well. He thought: “What if I could swim in a pool loaded with real money, like Scrooge McDuck?" That, unfortunately, was quite impossible. Instead, he’s creating his own money to fill a pool with and calls that his art. The sole purpose of his own Exchanghibition Bank is to serve that art: 'The Art of turning Art into Money'. (..more)

Join the last call for Edits to have your art displayed on Amsterdam Central Station

It's hard to miss all the art decorating the construction fences around Central Station, which has been on display since March 2009. Edits, a temporary exhibition, is the result of a collaboration between the local authorities of Amsterdam and N8. The concept behind the exhibition is that the works of art each represent one of the great museums Amsterdam has. Young designers and illustrators make them and get the opportunity to present their own interpretation of a museum. (..more)

Leave your dreamy behavior behind and dive into a new world with Curious Behaviour

Leave your dreamy behavior behind and dive into a new world with Curious Behaviour

A week ago, I told you about Cineville's birthday, with their treat to us Vive La Ville this Friday in the Melkweg. What I didn’t tell is that Curious Behaviour takes over the Melkweg during Vive La Ville with some curious stuff indeed! They are a Night Theater group with whom the distinction between the performers and audience blurs and where all elements come into their own. (..more)

Fantasy, horror, science fiction and animation at Imagine: Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival

Fantasy, horror, science fiction and animation at Imagine: Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival

Just before I was born, 27 years ago to be more precise, the Alhambra theatre at the Weteringsschans and its first Weekend of Terror formed the basis of today’s Imagine: 27th Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival. During this year's edition, Imagine takes over film theatre Kriterion and becomes the ultimate sanctuary for films within the fantasy, horror, science fiction and animation genres. (..more)

Cineville treats us to two premieres and a party for its two year anniversary

Cineville treats us to two premieres and a party for its two year anniversary

Although I occasionally download films, the cinema has become my favourite spot to enjoy a film again, and partly thanks to Cineville. The initiative, that already has over 5.500 card members, started on February 19th 2009 with the basic assumption that there was still an untapped potential for individual film theatres to join forces and offer their quality film programmes to the public under one umbrella. They filled this gap by introducing the Cineville card, which grants you unlimited access to all thirteen independent film theatres in Amsterdam. (..more)

Learn and listen at Red Bull’s Music Academy Session Amsterdam during 5 Days Off

Feb 25, 2011 |  by  |  Event, Music

5 Days Off is almost here with a great night program, but there’s something going on during the day as well! I stumbled across the Red Bull Music Academy Workshop, which is a teaser for the Red Bull Music Academy 2011, a trip you as a musician, DJ or producer can be part of. There are only 30 places available worldwide, so if you produce beats, play a saxophone or spin some great techno, the only thing that stands in your way of an invitation is an unique 'own look at music'!
