The hidden writings on corpses in the sewers, by our very own film critic Anouk
You all know her as Overdose.am’s film specialist, but Anouk has more up her sleeve than eating popcorn and writing about it. The 20th of October, her book De Almeerse Rioolmoorden will be published. Yes, that’s right. Her book. I sat down with her to find out more about how this came to be, and what else she is hiding from us. (..more)
Wide open landscapes in the underground, at the On My Way exhibition
The plans for a metro tunnel from North to South Amsterdam were made in 1968, and it only took until 2003 before constructions started. Diligent as our builders are, projections say it will be finished as soon as 2017. All joking aside, that's quite a lot of time to have an empty tunnel put to no use. That's what Mothers of Art must have thought when they decided on a location for their newest exhibition. (..more)
Overdose.am x Cassette in twelve pictures
Everybody who was clever enough to attend will confirm: the Overdose.am x Cassette Jam Session in Club Up last week was a great success. The musicians had never met before, but quickly found eachother through the jazzy vibes and electronic bleeps and beats. We recorded the jams for your home enjoyment, and our beloved friend Andrea Huls was there to capture the visual highlights of the night. The former will be provided to you very swiftly, the latter is here right now. Enjoy! (..more)
Fromanteel ‘The Making Of’ in twelve pictures
A couple of weeks ago Yoga wrote about the launch party of Fromanteel's 'Luxury Credit Card Holder', and promised we'd get back to you with the 'making of' photos for the promotional shoot. Today is the time. Our befriended bloggers at Ajanaku wrote a nice article about the photo shoot, which took place in the old Restaurant Koevoet in the Jordaan area. Photographer Reinier van der Aart was heavily inspired by the Hungarian artist Brassaï, and did a great job in recreating the high society 1920s Parisian atmosphere in the series. (..more)
Sex, Blogs & Rock ‘n Roll: the aftermath
I've been busy, you've been busy, sometimes things come later than expected. The book launch of Ernst-Jan Pfauth's 'Sex, Blogs & Rock 'n Roll' was a real blast, as was the party Overdose threw afterwards. Here are the photos for you to relive the night if you were part of it, or to wallow in self-pity if you weren't. (..more)
Party hard with Overdose at the launch of Sex, Blogs & Rock ‘n Roll
If you want to change the world, you have to leave the hypnotizing grip of your computer screen first. Or do you? Good friend and fellow blogger Ernst-Jan Pfauth, also known as Dutch Problogger, thinks differently. (..more)
A hidden cultural gem: Foam Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam
Every big city has some random photography museum, and they're pretty much always stowed away behind the pompous and extravagant buildings that house museums for what most of the visitors in the never-ending qeues consider 'real' art. The difference with Amsterdam's Foam_Fotografiemuseum is that it is not just a random photography museum; it is a hidden gem along the city's canals. (..more)
Which is more dangerous, a brakeless fixie or a Brit on a rental bike?
It gets easy to navigate your bike through the parallel universe of tourists in Amsterdam once you know your way around town. Anticipating traffic lights and taxi cabs, I hop from place to place efficiently without disturbing the flowing waves of traffic and sightseers. Sometimes I even feel like I don't have to think about it, like I have developed a sixth sense that takes control while my mind wanders to places of higher serenity. But there is always these moments when that mental serenity gets penetrated by a panicky, ringing sound. (..more)
