Every December Andy Williams starts singing to us about the most wonderful time of the year. Of course we all know he’s talking about Christmas and most of us will agree with him. But for some of us Christmas also means stress. Shopping stress, to be precise. Unfortunately it’s not Santa who puts the presents under the Christmas tree. No, we have to buy them ourselves. This weekend the Uitmarkt will be held for the 35th time, and it will turn both the Museumplein and Leidseplein into one big happy feast, filled with music, theatre, cabaret, movies, dance and literature. When I was 16 I had to choose whether or not I wanted to graduate in philosophy. I finally decided philosophy was something for very intelligent and dusty people, and that I was definitely not one of them. My life existed out of MTV, MSN and Breezers back then. During my university study I had to take a scientific philosophy exam and guess what. surprisingly, it was quite interesting! The more I learned about all the philosophers, the more I got to like it. Ladies and gentlemen, the Walhalla for all caffeine junkies has landed at the centre of Amsterdam. As of yesterday the doors of the biggest Starbucks shop in Europe are open. Starbucks had big plans for our beloved city, the shop is not only the 6th concept shop they’ve ever opened, but it’s also the first laboratory they have opened worldwide.
