Feed your photography appetite at YellowKorner without going (too) broke

Feed your photography appetite at YellowKorner without going (too) broke

We all know the feeling of pure torture when you find yourself in your favourite store when you’re flat broke. It sucks like hell. That’s also the reason why I never go to art galleries. Even when I’m not broke I’m still not able to buy even the tiniest drawing or painting. Thank God YellowKorner finally opened its first gallery in The Netherlands. (..more)

I know nothing about art. I don’t know the difference between renaissance and art nouveau, or Renoir and Monet. I have no idea why the Mona Lisa is such a famous painting. And yet I really love art, just not all of it. I can be touched by the somewhat disturbing paintings of Frida Kahlo, I like Picasso when he uses a lot of colour, and I have to smile every time I see Keith Harings’ figures dancing around somewhere. Last weekend Mysteryland celebrated its 20th anniversary. Yay! To celebrate this, the Floriade field was turned into a festive fairytale. The site looked like the décor of Alice in Wonderland and the stages were absolutely amazing. Overdose.am loves birthday parties, so we decided to join the celebrations. Luckily we weren’t the only ones dressed up to party our asses off. Have a look at some of the amazingly dressed people we ran into. (..more)

Disco diva PaardenKracht and Her Royal Highness of creative Amsterdam PUP fell in love with each other and made a beautiful baby, named KANTOR! It’s a theatre, art café, gallery, cinema and restaurant all in one. It’s an event where art, culture, music, food and technology meet each other in an innovative way. It’s the battleground of both established names and new talents. And above all, it’s allowed to get crazy and dance your shoes off. There will be disco of course, but also if you’re not a big fan of your disco shoes there’ll also be taken good musical care of you. (..more)

Let's save the ugly paprikas! Damn Food Waste!

Let’s save the ugly paprikas! Damn Food Waste!

How much of the food you buy ends up in the trash bin to feed the street cats? I try to buy only what I need, but I often buy my food on an empty stomach so the cats in my street enjoy a three course meal on a regular basis. This means happy times for the cat community, but not so happy times for mother earth. This food waste not only means a waste of the food you throw away, but also a waste of nutritious substances, water, energy and soil. Worldwide we throw away a third of our food! In The Netherlands this means 110 pounds per person every year. This is not only because of us, the consumer though. Mostly, it’s food that farmers can’t sell because it doesn’t meet consumers’ requirements; food that passed the Best Before date and is thrown away by supermarkets. (..more)

Blom & Blom revives forgotten German factory lamps

Blom & Blom revives forgotten German factory lamps

May 16, 2013 |  by  |  Art, Spots

A while ago I was invited by the Blom brothers Kamiel and Martijn to have a look at their workplace in Ilpendam, just outside Amsterdam. Together they started the inspiring and successful Blom & Blom. In the rustic barn of their family home, they’re working passionately on refurbishing forgotten artefacts. Does this sound boring to you? Well, it’s not! The Bloms aren’t restoring some old junk from their grandmother’s attic. No, we’re talking about artefacts found in abandoned factories in Eastern Germany, all telling a unique story. (..more)
