Hidden off what is possibly the only market in Amsterdam not in a tourist guide is evidence that even though Americans can’t seem to run their own government, they (some of them) can cook. Bar Brouw serves the type of food any Southern belle wouldn’t come within parasol reach of – and that’s what makes it good. I’ve had my eye on the place for a while and every time I go by there have been different signs of life. Then all of a sudden there was real life and instead of writing a piece on the fact that I had finally spotted some mail in a window I liked the look of and so now knew that the new coffee place on the Kinkerstraat was going to be called Lot Sixty One, I could speak to the owners.
