Spring has just started, but the temperatures tell otherwise. The people behind sustainable hotspot Cafe de Ceuvel made sure their pavilion was winter-proof and cosy as always. (..more)

Hamlet, to be or not to be taken by surprise

Hamlet, to be or not to be taken by surprise

During my internships as an audio-visual technician I came across a lot of different jobs. That diversity didn’t change a bit, freelancing around and getting every job that interests me. One job in particular, at the Noord Nederlands Toneel theatre group (NNT), strongly contributed to my cultural view and intrigued me to follow their pieces. (..more)

What exactly is a social platform? We all know Facebook, but this is about a place a bit more practical. A place were you exchange more than likes, more than pictures, more than the Facebook friends you probably only saw once or twice. I'm talking about De Valreep, an off-line social platform. (..more)

Ever had the feeling you just wanted to take off your shoes and feel the grass between your toes? I take at least some clothes off at nearly every party, most likely a t-shirt. The most common thing I hear then would be “Ernesto, put your shirt back on!” Anyhow, as you might have guessed shirtless wasn’t the dress code on this particular event; it’s all about dancing barefoot! Innovative theatre in total darkness with the blind greek hero Teiresias

In my time as a freelancer I had some pretty nice jobs: making videos, photographs and many other things. Although I’m quite happy with al these different kinds of activities, there was one thing missing: being innovative and refreshing in theatre. A smoking refrigerator, blind actors, infra-red lighting & video, total darkness, sound scopes and a party in a kitchen. Teiresias is the name of the play that brings you this unique theatre experience. (..more)

‘Dicht op het Vuur’, a perfect event for romantics and music lovers

I discovered this event when I locked myself out of my apartment and was waiting for a locksmith to arrive. I waited for over an hour, happily surprised to hear some inspiring music and good vibes from across the road, at the Noorderlicht café. My curiosity led me there and I felt right at home. The first thing I noticed were the people: laid-back, open minded and all enjoying themselves. (..more)

Talk and learn about film trailers at the Ketelhuis tonight

Talk and learn about film trailers at the Ketelhuis tonight

Dec 6, 2010 |  by  |  Art, Event

Should trailers capture the essence of a film? This will be the main topic of discussion tonight at 20:00 in the Ketelhuis. The main reason the NFTVM (association of new film and television makers) organized this night is because of the film trailer of Anton Corbijn's The American (trailer inside); the trailer promised action, thrills and the naked body of George Clooney, and although the film was pretty darn good it told the audience a different, slower story. Het Kabinet festival in twelve pictures

'Het Kabinet festival', last weekend at Studio/K started with waiting in line for an hour with tons of people in the freezing cold, with only a distant techno beat and the thought of seeing techno legend Matthew Jonson live keeping me warm. After some body parts had almost frozen off, I finally got inside and rushed to get myself a whisky and on the dance floor to get my blood flowing again. Looking around was overwhelming: rooms filled with sequencers, synths, all kinds of guitars and, in one room, a fairly disturbing horror film. (..more)

The demonstration for Schijnheilig in twelve pictures

Yesterday, a demonstration took place to preserve the squatted home of Schijnheilig, a creative collective that strives to use vacant space as free, non-commercial meeting points for art, music, poetry and more. Well, here’s the problem they are facing: new mayor van der Laan, enforcing the new law against squatting, ordered to clear their building, which would mean that the gypsy vibe of Schijnheilig would soon be gone and that their home would become another empty space in Amsterdam once again.
