Guest of Honour: Todd Terje about unicorns and strong beers

Guest of Honour: Todd Terje about unicorns and strong beers

For me, Todd Terje used to be one of those DJs of whom the name vaguely rings a bell but you don’t really know the actual sound that well. When several friends told me they’d kill me if I didn’t visit his set at Time Warp Holland, I decided it was about time to figure out more about this man from Norway. And I absolutely, completely, totally, extremely, and entirely fell in love with his style. Todd’s melodious nu-disco sound is one to lose yourself to in happiness, over and over again. (..more)

Guest of Honour: Pan-Pot about their love for Amsterdam party promotion

Tassilio Ippenberger and Thomas Benedix, the multi-dimensional Berlin DJ duo better known as Pan-Pot, have the exceptional talent of spinning only techno and house tracks that I absolutely love. At the end of March a documentary about them will be released due to their tremendous success. On Saturday the 17th, they will play a 4 hour set at Linke Soep in Studio 80 where their documentary will be displayed as well. I got to meet up with them for a nice chat. (..more)

Let bags inspire you at various levels at Nachtsalon

Let bags inspire you at various levels at Nachtsalon

Mar 10, 2012 |  by  |  Event, Fashion

Who doesn’t know the annual Museumnacht in November? On that night almost all museums in Amsterdam have a special program to connect us, young people, to museums. Sadly, this extraordinary event is still months away. However, the people from n8 organize Nachtsalon, a more intimate party located at a different museum every edition, once or twice a year. Luckily, the upcoming edition is next week. Tassenmuseum Hendrikje, the biggest bag-museum in the world, is up next and the theme of the night is – you probably guessed this already - ‘bags’. Guest of honour: Ben Klock about his crazy weekends and breakfast meditation

Guest of honour: Ben Klock about his crazy weekends and breakfast meditation

Mar 8, 2012 |  by  |  Music

He’s one of the resident DJs of legendary club Berghain in Berlin at label OstGut Ton, he has his own record label named Klockworks, when I last saw him he was playing at Time Warp, now he’s playing at the Melkweg this Friday at 5 Days Off (I absolutely can’t wait!), and he’s one of my personal all time techno heroes. I’m talking about no one other than Ben Klock, obviously! I had the privilege to ask mister Klock himself some questions. (..more)

Soften your 5 Days Off hangover at 5 Days On

Soften your 5 Days Off hangover at 5 Days On

Mar 1, 2012 |  by  |  Art, Event

Time flies, because next week it’s already time for 5 Days Off. I can’t wait to go crazy on the amazing line up. What I don’t look forward to however is the inevitable hangover. But not to worry, I have the perfect medicine! 5 Days On is the program for those who desire a little bit more depth, where the interaction between electronic music and art is explored. Because what’s better than to look at some art at daytime, to soften your hangover and to experience culture as a pre-party before you go dancing? (..more)

DJ, producer, experimental pop artist and bandleader Matthew Dear is coming to town

Feb 20, 2012 |  by  |  Event, Music

That’s right, you’ve read it correctly. Matthew Dear is coming to town, on May 2nd to be precise. I know that’s still far away, but I bought my ticket as soon as the pre-sale started (which was last week) because I would literally cry if I missed this. I love artists that can’t be classified in one genre, and Matthew is a perfect example of this. He’s a DJ, dance-music producer, experimental pop artist and bandleader in one. (..more)

Dare2Wear, the cosiest place in town to get a piercing

Dare2Wear, the cosiest place in town to get a piercing

Feb 16, 2012 |  by  |  Photos, Spots

For some, getting a piercing can be a pretty nerve wrecking experience. When you decide to willingly drill a piece of jewellery through your own skin for the sake of art and expressing your individuality you might want to do it in a safe, comfortable and cosy. Dare2Wear, located in the Jordaan, is the place to be! I personally got my tragus pierced there after multiple friends recommended me to go there. I know the word tragus sounds a little perverted but I have to disappoint you, it’s a part of your ear. (..more)

Art and performance at Palais Paradiso

Feb 14, 2012 |  by  |  Art, Event

Paradiso is mostly famous for its great concerts and parties. This Thursday however, something different is going down in this legendary place. Every year a range of different artists are invited to show fine arts and performance live for Palais Paradiso. This year’s theme is ‘The Talent Show’, a satirical reference to the enormous amount of talent shows we’re bombarded with nowadays. The contestants will show off their best tricks, especially for you! (..more)

It’s that time of the year again: 5 Days Off is right around the corner. In my opinion this awesome electronic music festival doesn’t need an introduction anymore. I do want to emphasize on the fact that this guide is based on my personal taste completely and therefore isn’t objective at all. (..more)

Let contemporary dance amaze you at Something Raw

Let contemporary dance amaze you at Something Raw

Feb 9, 2012 |  by  |  Art, Event

The name ‘Something Raw’ made me want to go there before I even knew what the hell it was. This international contemporary dance festival brings the work of young, innovative, and controversial choreographers to our town at Frascati and De Brakke Grond. You’ll see dance and performance at its finest and believe me, these choreographers aren’t afraid to take risks. This eleventh edition, Explorations In Solidarity, is all about ‘the individual vs. group awareness’, the theme that currently seems to belong to our selfish generation. (..more)
