The right to make noise: Converse Rocks Amsterdam
I don’t know a single person who doesn’t have love for Chuck’s. Although I rarely wear flat shoes, whenever I am in need of some retirement from heels, my Converse’s are a definite go to for help. Last week, I had the pleasure of joining the brand on their ‘Right to Make Noise’ event, held at Amsterdam’s Chicago Social Club. It was a night of great live music and heart warming bourbon. I also loved the really cool photo exhibition that showed the freedom musicians have and their amazing rock and roll lifestyle, which I often secretly envy a bit. (..more)
Take your business elsewhere: Creative Amsterdam 2011
As much as I love my home base Amsterdam, sometimes it’s good to step out of your comfort zone and meet with people who took a risk of taking their business elsewhere. From May 11-13, Creative Amsterdam brings together leading Duthc creative entrepreneurs operating outside the Netherlands with enthusiastic students, upcoming business minds and all other folks with creative ideas. The plan is to celebrate the talent and hard work of these successful go-getters with a varied programme: from open design sessions, business dates and export cicles to talk shows, an award show and the first Open Studio Night. Delicious bites and happy drinks at Amsterdam’s press days
The end of this month, April, also marks the end of most of the press days. Several PR agencies in Amsterdam opened their doors to show us their new collections and brands. Fortunately, the delicious snacks, sweets and drinks they serve make it a lot less hard to bike from press office to press office. Since I got a chance to view all the upcoming new collections, I thought I’d give you a glimpse of what next season will bring, and what we could very well be wearing. (..more)
Meet and Eat: De Vredespijp
They say that in life, you should always pursue your passion and turn your dream into reality. In 1971, Ko van der Meer decided to do just that. He founded his very own Art Deco furniture shop, on a corner in the middle of de Pijp, one of the old and cozy neighbourhoods in Amsterdam. His family always lived above the shop, until the entire building had to be thrown down. The family fought to retain the place by collecting signatures and eventually, they had to choose between the house and the shop. Ko decided to choose for the shop and fortunately for us, this means De Vredespijp still exists. (..more)
Ordinary People Looking Extraordinary at Filippa K’s 10th birthday bash
Although extravagant parties are a common part of the fashion world, finding the events you truly enjoy can be hard at times. Xaviera and I attended the 10th birthday party of one my favourite sophisticated fashion labels out there: Filippa K. It was a day of rushing from appointment to appointment and this party, being the last on my hectic schedule, was supposed to be a case of hit and run. (..more)
Getting intimate with Sam Friday part 2
Remember my new crush I told you about? This week, Sam Friday finally opened its first store in Amsterdam to introduce everyone to the world of intimate apparels. The store opening was all I could imagine of the brand, and more: stylish and glamorous, without being intimidating. As you may (..more)
Meeting the creatives behind Amsterdam’s new hotspot Lion Noir
As a little girl I would often fantasize about getting lost in a secret garden, pretending to be Alice in Wonderland. Even though I have been living in Amsterdam for many years now, I still find myself on a quest for these places where feelings of being a free and careless girl come up again. Imagine my delight when I had the chance to meet the creative brains behind my new favourite hotspot: Lion Noir. (..more)
Puma Social Club, a perfect paradise for the after hours athlete
Sporty and fashionable often do not go hand in hand in my fashion dictionary. Up until recently, I didn’t even own a pair of sweat pants. But people do change, and since I’m a firm believer of trying out new things, I get better at channeling my inner sporty self by the day. As it turns out, luck is on my side, because sporty fashion brand Puma has created a fun fashion night out where you can mix sports with cocktails and great music. Allow me to introduce you to a new phenomenon: The Puma Social Club. (..more)
Meeting Ellis Biemans, the girl behind the collections
Her office/showroom/think-tank is situated in the heart of the city: the former Volkskrant building that is now being used as a creative hub for young entrepreneurs. It’s tiny but very cosy, and it breathes the feel of fashion. Entering Ellis’ private world means encountering numerous naked fitting dolls, racks and racks of clothing and a peculiar looking fox that was missing an ear. All the more reasons for me to do this interview and introduce you guys to this lovely, not yet famous, but very upcoming fashion designer Ellis Biemans. (..more)
Music meets fashion with Diesel’s Rock & Roll chic collection
It was a sunny afternoon in Amsterdam when I decided to drive my bike to the Diesel headquarters to take a look at their new collection. I wasn’t expecting much, since most collection presentations tend to look the same. Little did I know that by entering the room, I would step into an atmosphere where the Rock & Roll lifestyle was transformed perfectly into a fashion wonderland. (..more)
