Meet the artist by the name of Philip Akkerman
You most definitely should go and see the paintings by Philip Akkerman at this Heineken sponsored event at TORCH Gallery. Philip is known for his self-portraits of which he made over six thousand and which are exhibited all over the world. Imagine what that's like; spending all your time on the art of your own face. In the end, a self-portrait is all about showing who you are, but finding your identity is not about your face but the road you have travelled. In Philip's paintings it's all about showing and expressing that road and not about having his eyes and nose and mouth perfectly copied out of real life. (..more)

Meet the artist by the name of Merijn Kavelaars
Since our chance meeting, I have been following Merijn Kavelaars, and he has rocked the Amsterdam Art scene with his explosive paintings that bear resemblance to street art but are different. Always colourful and meant to provoke, just as he is in person. Check out his 'Dirty Men' series as well as his 'Family Snavel' portraits. Having moved from his atelier on the canals, Merijn will host a grand opening of his new Kavelaars Gallery on the second floor of Magna Plaza, this Wednesday August 3rd. (..more)
Meet the artist by the name of Kianoosh Motallebi
A little while ago a certain mr. Kianoosh Motallebi showed me around the Rijksakademie and told me all about his projects and his art. I can’t remember the last time I was this fascinated by the explanation of a creative process, as I heard Kianoosh talking about what it is that he does. That’s why I decided to contact him to profile him for Overdose. (..more)
The Gerrit Rietveld Academy’s graduation show
At this yearly event, graduates from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie will show you how all the work they did while studying at one of the most established schools in the field of modern art has led to this final exhibition. Take note of their names and work, since from now on they will travel the world and show their artistic values. I’ve been there many times and it's never the same: sometimes weird, guaranteed artistic and always surprising. Think about how unique it is to be surprised these days. (..more)
