Join us in skipping New Year’s Eve and come party at Next Monday’s Hangover – F*CK NYE!

Dec 1, 2011 |  by  |  Event, Music

Do you consider New Year’s Eve one of the biggest clichés of the year too? The build-up to the 31st of December seems to last forever, everything is hyped up to extremes, tickets cost an arm and a leg, and when the big countdown show finally arrives.. it never lives up to the hype. This is our strong advice for the end of 2011: stay home with some friends and family and enjoy some home-made oliebollen and appelflappen. And buy a ticket to our F*CK NYE party on the 30th of December. (..more)

Guest of Honour: The deep, crisp, well-produced, super-hot and sexy Noir

I’ve been doing a lot of interviews with DJs and producers lately and I also publish a weekly podcast by a local DJ. This means I get to speak to a lot of electronic music artists. Most of them don't impress me as much with their back story as Noir did though. I have a weak spot for people who confidently set out to realise their dreams, and make it all the way. DJing, producing, running a label.. Noir had his future planned out for himself from the very beginning. (..more)

Followers of Overdose.am should be familiar with our weekly ‘guide to the night’ called Next Monday’s Hangover and the events we organize under the same name. The main man behind the guide, the artists we book for the NMH events and our main resident DJ is Ridz aka Some Chemistry. He warmed up the main room for H.O.S.H. and Robert Babicz at our most recent event Midnight Wonderland and we have the recording of that set for you today. (..more)

I had the honour of having a short chat with Motor City Drum Ensemble yesterday. For those not familiar with Motor City Drum Ensemble, this name must immediately make you think of Detroit, after which your first instinct would probably be that you were dealing with a collective of pioneers from this famous music city. All wrong. (..more)

Mixtape Monday: When the days get shorter the tracks go deeper by Gideon Bouwens

Mixtape Monday: When the days get shorter the tracks go deeper by Gideon Bouwens

Nov 22, 2011 |  by  |  Music

A DJ that will remain unnamed failed to properly survive the weekend and deliver everything needed for this week's edition of Mixtape Monday on time. So, once again, I'm publishing an article with Monday in its name on Tuesday. I won't complain though, I wish I had that kind of heavy artist lifestyle! Studio 80 resident Gideon Bouwens jumped in, saved the day, and made sure we don't start this week music-less, with a last-minute set especially made for the cold pre-winter days we're in right now. Brrr! (..more)

It’s Monday, and I’m definitely still feeling the hangover from Midnight Wonderland. I may be biased, but I think the people who were present will agree with me when I say that something special happened last Saturday. We meet a lot of amazing and creative people through writing for Overdose.am, and we aim to bring the best ones together and give them a platform at our own events. This was our vision on music, art and fashion in Amsterdam today, with two secret German ingredients. See you again soon! (..more)

Mixtape Monday: Monday’s wild imagination mix by Mike Ravelli

On a cold Monday like this we can all use some warm music to get our body temperature up again. With Mike Ravelli behind the decks this should be no problem though. This DJ from Haarlem has quite a track record in Amsterdam. Gigs at many GZG editions, Shoeless, Mystery Land, Studio 80 all reside on his résumé. This mixtape is a tour through the record bag of this vinyl collector. Enjoy! (..more)

Mixtape Monday: Satori is going into the void

Mixtape Monday: Satori is going into the void

Nov 7, 2011 |  by  |  Music

Today is all about Satori. After the interview with him we published earlier today, a podcast was the logical thing to follow. For this weeks Mixtape Monday edition, Satori hit the studio for a jam session with the jazz pianist that is also part of his live set-up: Fat Fingers. The result is a set going into depth with a focus on what Satori calls sphere. What that feels like and means is something I’ll let you experience for yourself. Just hit the play button below! Guest of Honour: Short moments of enlightenment with Satori

One of my favourite albums of late is the new solo album by Satori (of El Mundo & Satori fame) on the Dutch techno label Bla Bla. In fact, we were so excited by the sound of this album that we invited Satori to perform his new live-set at our upcoming event Midnight Wonderland. To spread our excitement and to make sure the room is packed when he takes the stage, I interviewed Satori about his inspirations, Zen moments and the live jam session with keys that he will perform at Midnight Wonderland.
