Den ganzen abend curryworst und bier at Roest's Bacchanaal Oktoberfest

Den ganzen abend curryworst und bier at Roest’s Bacchanaal Oktoberfest

Oct 3, 2012 |  by  |  Event, Food

What do all men love? Meat, women and beer. It’s no coincidence that the Bavarian Oktoberfest, which celebrates all of the above, is a huge event every year. And I am personally very happy that we in Amsterdam are joining in more every year. My pick for 2012 is Roest’s Bacchanaal. They promise long tables with checkered tablecloths, beer mugs, girls in dirndls, pig on spit, schlager music, pretzels and curryworst by chef Jaymz. I’m already getting hungry and thirsty writing this. (..more)

Your guide to Museumnacht Amsterdam

Your guide to Museumnacht Amsterdam

Oct 3, 2012 |  by  |  Art, Event

Once a year almost all museums in Amsterdam extend their opening hours to late at night and roll in bars, DJs, dancers, film screens, food stands and more good stuff. Locals will already be familiar with Museumnacht (museum night), this is its thirteenth edition, but I am pretty sure you can count the amount of people who have seen all participating museums on the fingers of one hand. So whoever you are, a night of discovery, party and culture awaits you! I’ve highlighted some parts of the programme to help on you on the way. (..more)

Mixtape Monday: Backstage by Victor Coral

Mixtape Monday: Backstage by Victor Coral

Oct 1, 2012 |  by  |  Music

Victor Coral is a multi-taskforce: DJ, producer, promoter, writer and dedicated party animal. Over the last decade he became a household name in the Dutch scene. A residency at Chemistry’s RUSH kickstarted his career, and in 2008 he teamed up with his good friend ONNO. This happy synthesis resulted in techhouse collabo PRESETONE and Babylon, a bimonthly clubnight at Studio 80. The story continues in 2010 as Victor got onboard with the Backstage crew, who have their 1 year anniversary this week. Occasionally pulling some strings backstage and frequently rocking the decks frontstage. (..more)

Mixtape Monday: Off Centre by Jan van Kampen

Sep 24, 2012 |  by  |  Music

This week we have a podcast by Dekmantel Soundsystem member Jan van Kampen. He can shake up even the most washed out after parties and the most blasé clubgoers. And not just with your run of the mill hits, but with the darkest and sleeziest dancefloor ammo available on the market. This Saturday Jan will be hitting the stage at the Off Centre festival in the Melkweg, together with international stars Omar S, Martyn and Pariah. An event well worth visiting. (..more)

Watch this year’s Drive at the Jameson Film Experience

Sep 24, 2012 |  by  |  Art, Event, Sponsored

I love a good film and a good whiskey. Combining the two sounds like a win-win situation, especially with a film that looks as promising as Killing Them Softly. Those who visited the edition featuring Anton Corbijn’s Closer or any of the four other previous editions, know they can trust the film selection the Jameson crew make. To get in on the action you need to request an invite from Jameson here. See you there! (..more)

WEITER is bringing Rock-'n-Roll back to Amsterdam's house scene

WEITER is bringing Rock-’n-Roll back to Amsterdam’s house scene

Sep 20, 2012 |  by  |  Event, Music

Amsterdam’s dance scene is a very cosy one, everyone is friends with everyone and going to most of the night clubs feels like partying in someone’s living room. Your friends are the DJs and the DJs are your friends; the atmosphere is often intimate. I appreciate this about our little town, but sometimes you yearn back to the nights of yore when artists were real stars and going out meant seeing a Rock-’n-Roll legend in action. Well, it seems we might be going back to those days a little bit, as that man Olivier Weiter has turned to rock history for inspiration for his new night WEITER. (..more)

Mixtape Monday: “Single nOte Music ON” by Michael Jacques & Bob Nagel

Sep 17, 2012 |  by  |  Music

This week we have two guests in our series that have both had a solo Mixtape Monday before. Dekmantel's Michael Jacques and Squz's Bob Nagel are no strangers though. The two friends found out they have a rare kind of chemistry after a few spontaneous b2b sessions at afterparties. Both vinyl collectors decided that this bromance was meant for more and bigger stages, so they're taking it to the road. Expect to see them around more often, most probably with an extra long closing set. (..more)

Mixtape Monday: Owh my funkin' Monday morning by Halve Soul

Mixtape Monday: Owh my funkin’ Monday morning by Halve Soul

Sep 10, 2012 |  by  |  Music

This week we have DJ duo Halve Soul in Mixtape Monday. Only one year ago, Roberto Balzarelli and Dieuwer Duijf started Halve Soul together with a new monthly night in Le Patron. Their aim was to bring a different kind of sound, which evolved into a highly danceable four quarter funk with a small obsession for the bass line. They got picked up by local promoters ZeeZout and Paardenkracht who were both also on the rise, and this led to gigs in Paradiso, AIR, Chicago Social Club, Buiten Westen and Valtifest. Enjoy! Hot Chip returns to the Melkweg and in our heads

Hot Chip returns to the Melkweg and in our heads

Sep 7, 2012 |  by  |  Event, Music

Five men strong British electropop band Hot Chip has been one of my personal favourite bands ever since their amazing album The Warning in 2006. Songs such as Over and Over and Ready For The Floor remain on high rotation years later, something that doesn’t happen to a lot of bands I like. This year they’ve released what is already their fifth album, In Our Heads, and this warrants them finally coming back to the Melkweg for the first time since 2008. (..more)
