Seven piece Welsh indie pop band Los Campesinos! bring new album to Amsterdam
One of the few songs that managed to get stuck on repeat on my sound system is the hypnotizing Letters From Me To Charlotte (RSVP) from Los Campesinos!’s 2009 album Romance is Boring. It probably won’t be played at their upcoming Paradiso gig sadly; its an obscure b-side, and they already have a new album out (Hello Sadness). Not that this means I won’t go though. They have plenty of good material and just maybe, they will play my personal favourite anyway! (..more)

Sultry Caribbean sounds, swinging Rock ‘n Roll and more at De Muzikale Stamtafel
Every week I plan to do absolutely nothing on Sunday, after which I end up in the couch, bored and often hungover. No more though, I have a new plan! Sundays are for going somewhere very relaxing, and doing absolutely nothing there. Zondagmiddag bij VLLA, which we wrote about earlier this week, is marked down in my agenda and so is the weekly De Muzikale Stamtafel at Edel. Here, singer Cato van Dijck (The Souldiers) invites known and unknown musical talents to come by and perform. (..more)
Mixtape Monday: Welcome to the Fistpump Convention by Quentin van Honk and Minz
This weekend Quentin van Honk won the 2012 edition of the TWSTd DJ contest for new talents. Coincidentally, we already had him planned in for this week’s Mixtape Monday. Together with his buddy Minz that is. They have recently started producing together and also launched a new live act. Normally their styles are quite different, but they’ve found a middleground that combines Minz’s deep techno with Quentin’s groove. Enjoy! (..more)
Mixtape Monday: Sunday by Wouter de Moor
DJ and Producer Wouter de Moor is one of those guys who conquers the world with a smile. His list of releases is growing at a steady pace with tracks on various big imprints. From Amsterdam’s Bla Bla and Remote Area, to 90 Watts and Paco Osuna’s Spanish Mindshake, label owners are all very pleased to welcome him to their firms. Naturally this has lead to a packed dj-agenda with gigs all over Holland, but also in South Korea, China, Spain, London and the infamous Cocoon club in Frankfurt. (..more)
Discuss the real value of culture at the Art as Money Festival
The Art as Money festival is an initiative by artist Dadara and Total in Support. In a time where the government uses billions to keep banks alive but at the same time cuts severely in the amount of money available for art, they think it is needed to have a discussion about the real value of both art and money. At the same time they want to show how artists can use alternative ways to generate funds to keep creating and following their dreams in these times. (..more)
Mixtape Monday: Monday like it’s Sunday by Michiel Tettero
Youngster Michiel Tettero (20) is on Mixtape Monday duty this week. He may be just 20, but after already making his club debut in Haarlem’s Club Stalker back in 2006 you could say he has already been noticed. His style could be described as a mix between house, tech-house, deep house, jazz and techno with phat grooves and inciting rhythms and hi-hats. Not an everyday blend, but certainly a tasteful one. He has recently released his first EP, in collaboration with Camiel Daamen, Everybody EP (PiekUp Records) and more will follow soon.. (..more)
Mixtape Monday: Keep it average by Levi Verspeek
Groovy techno or funk with a drive is what you can expect when Levi Verspeek plays his music. This Amsterdam born and raised kid made his first techno track in 2010, Hurken, which was instantly picked up by the likes of techno legend Dave Clarke. He even played it in the best of 2010 edition of his radio show White Noise. In 2011 he became a TWSTd finalist which resulted in a Sugar Factory residency; the future is bright for Levi! (..more)

His DJ sets vary from house to techno and everything in between, and the successful club night BlackOut he hosts together with Thomas Martojo and Casper Tielrooij has already had artists like Julio Bashmore, Prosumer, Levon Vincent and Kerri Chandler over in its short lifetime. Next up for BlackOut: UK house pioneer Joy Orbison on February 10th. This man knows his music! (..more)
