I’m a terrible cook. Seriously. I think it’s one of the most complicated missions one can undertake. Through years of frustration I discovered that vegetables each have a different boiling time, and that tossing fish fillet is the reason mine always crumbles. It’s one of the labours I like to avoid. Luckily I have talented friends who are more than able to soften my freezer food fate, and create the most amazing dinners. There’s one in particular: Emilie. She’ll open a one-day restaurant this Saturday as a part of the Dutch Restaurant Day. (..more)

Last week, we had a chat with Diynamic Festival’s organisers about what they’re about to bring upon us. As Diy-day draws closer, I thought it was about time for a small preview of what’s to come music-wise. Known for their innovative and avant-garde artists, Diynamic is bound to be one of the most interesting festivals of the year. And besides their big bangers, the really interesting stuff might just happen slightly left of the middle. So in the words of our beloved Steve: “Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers.” (..more)

If you’re not the music buff, stop reading. If you are, proceed. For those of you who have an infinite hunger for music and, more specifically, the story behind it: a new ritual might be coming your way. Every month at film theater Rialto, guest programmer Christian Pazzaglia will pick one music documentary – golden oldie or new kid on the block – and give an in-depth introduction to the film. Every screening is followed by an after party inspired by the documentary’s musical style. (..more)

The best birthday to celebrate besides your own is without a doubt the Queens’. A couple of very nice parties will be served to you in honour of Her Majesty. I wonder if she’d like them, but that’s pretty irrelevant. This is the last year we get to party with her, so I would highly recommend you to go boozin’ to the following night parties in Amsterdam. God bless the Queen! (..more)

Dennis Duijnhouwer is a photographer from Amsterdam who’s known for his street photography. About seven years ago he took his first picture of an artificial plant. Something just intrigued him about it, the way it just sat there. He started to wonder. Why do people have artificial flowers, and why do they exist? (..more)
