Local Rockstars: Sinfol on the flourishing techno scene

Sinfol has become one of the key figures of the Amsterdam techno scene. His vision is clear and this guy isn't going to let anything get in his way. If his name doesn't ring a bell (yet) his label Anagram probably will. I met up with him at Coffee & Coconuts while he basically just came back from Berghain. (..more)

Local Rockstars: Gijs Wisselink about rock ‘n roll and going for it full throttle

Feb 12, 2016 |  by  |  Music

Gijs Wisselink is a local rockstar in the most literal sense. When you say Gijs Wisselink, you say rock 'n roll. He's hosting his own rock 'n roll party in Bitterzoet on Valentines day. We had a chat about his love for rock 'n roll, the Amsterdam rock 'n roll scene (that sucks, but not entirely, according to Gijs) and his party Je Veux Rock 'n Roll. (..more)

Local Rockstars: Bas Dobbelaer’s atmospheric sound

Jan 29, 2016 |  by  |  Music

His dad's into electronic music, so Bas Dobbelaer grew up hearing Sandrien and John Digweed. He and his brother always competed by wanting to find the coolest track. It was Bas' dad who took him to his first techno party when he was only 17 years old. Nuno Dos Santos and Patrice Bäumel were playing in Paradiso and he even called beforehand to make sure his underage son would get inside. This is the moment Bas knew that this was it. (..more)

Local Rockstars: Tim Hoeben about the tension between house and disco

Tim Hoeben is everywhere. No, seriously. Everywhere. He was a resident at Trouw and Studio 80 (may they both rest in peace) and still is at Disco Dolly. So it's save to say his style is extremely diverse. He seems to be playing at every party in town, including at Oostkaap in Cruquiusgilde this Saturday. (..more)

Local Rockstars: Steffen Morrison wants to make you sweat

Local Rockstars: Steffen Morrison wants to make you sweat

Dec 7, 2015 |  by  |  Event

Steffen Morrison is one of those artists who takes your breath away whenever they start singing. His voice drips soul and has a vibrato and warm rawness that reminds me of Otis Redding, Seal or John Legend. The fact that he's Dutch makes me a little proud, because his voice is timeless and it sounds as if he's an old soul. He keeps the 'old sounds' alive with a new twist that'll seduce music connoisseurs like me and you. (..more)

ADE 2015 is in full swing, and Red Bull Playrooms is bringing the past, present and future of club culture together. Aggressive kicks, resonating strings and hi-hats that cut through your eardrums are the main characteristics of De Sluwe Vos' sound.
