Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow your options down by weekly suggesting the events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. So here’s where you weekend warriors should go to make it worth your damn hangover.
Friday: Willow, Pieter Jansen & Jasmín @ Noorderschip
June has seen Noorderschip continue its streak of hosting intimate and well-curated parties. Therefore, the slickly renovated ship has quickly maneuvered itself between the cities’ most eccentric joints. Music wise there’s been a consistent flow of local and international selectors entering the hull and playing extended sets varying from twisted house to intense electro.
This Friday night will have London-based Willow lined up together with Pieter Jansen and Jasmín to serve a night of tripped out house and more. Willow’s style cannot be defined exactly but has proved to move countless floors globally. After releasing two superb EPs on Lowtec’s renowned Workshop label, it seemed she put down production and increased her focus on performing. This has definitely resulted in her present popularity so Noorderschip will surely be the place to experience what she’s all about.
Saturday: Detroit Love with Carl Craig and Stacey Pullen @ Paradiso
It’s not that often that the Dam’s temple of pop opens its doors for a night of decent electronics, but when it does it’s bound to be special. Paradiso is foremostly seen as the nation’s most monumental music stage and hosts weekly performances of almost every genre one can think of. This Saturday though has Detroit written all over it as Carl Craig and Stacey Pullen conduct the first theatrical room all night. Expect a night of percussive extremes combined with compelling melodics like only true Detroit sound pioneers are able to provide. In addition, the second room will have Kremlin Disco, Kuriosa and Pablo Discobar Soundsystem play tunes.
