Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow your options down by weekly suggesting the events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. So here’s where you weekend warriors should go to make it worth your damn hangover.
Saturday & Sunday: Lente Kabinet @ Het Twiske
One of spring’s highlights must be Lente Kabinet. Totally surrounded by the greens of woodland Het Twiske, the festival now provides for two days of action. Spread over several atmospheric areas, the terrain invites its visitors to explore both physically and musically.
The line-up has yet again indulged many music aficionados by containing loads of eccentric live shows, tastemakers on the rise and established talents. With a particular funky sound assigned to the overall spirit of the festival, purists of genres like disco, soul and house will surely be overwhelmed with what’s on offer. In addition to this, there’s a smaller but solid amount of acts booked pushing some forward thinking, murky sounds. All in all, this isn’t something to sleep on, so get your groove on this weekend.
Sunday: Our Society @ Shelter
Coming Sunday makes for two exceptional options of closing out your weekend. First we have the cherished organization of Our Society taking over Shelter for the first time with a more than classy selection of house and disco purveyors. Chicago House master and Trax Records affiliated Robert Owens will for one be present to keep the swing going together with Jamie 3:26, Mr. Mendel and Our Society resident Wendel Sield who’ll get you through the rest of the night for sure.
Sunday: Nicolas Lutz & Oceanic @ De School
Alternatively, De School will open its doors on Sunday to bring in Nicolas Lutz and resident Oceanic. Lutz always seems to be on the lookout for the next or last best thing and cannot be hindered by any particular trend or genre-related boundary whatsoever. Supported by Oceanic in Het Muzieklokaal on the ground floor, this Sunday School night will be one for the books.
