A bi-weekly Monday mixtape from an Amsterdam-based DJ to kick-start your new week. Archive here.
Late 2017, Quincy & Overdose crew member Maurice started their Soul Searchers project: a platform that celebrates soulful music, in any form, age or style possible. Ranging from ’70s Brazilian jazz-funk to Japanese city pop and other world music; nothing is off limits, as long as it’s got soul. Starting off with podcasts (Selections), they play the black wax hunted down in record stores and give small annotations during these sessions.
Various forms of music, with one consistency: soulfulness.
While jazz-funk (both conjoined and individually), disco & world music is the initial interest, for Mixtape Monday Soul Searchers bridges these styles together with their spiritual successor: house music. Various forms of music, with one consistency: soulfulness. Soul Searchers is also for the culture, as they’re recording videos about the creative process of producers and documentaries about musical topics, which they will put out from March on. Sharing music that might not have gained airplay otherwise, they strive to provide you with a look beyond your own musical landscape and, as their manta goes: “Keeping that soul in ya eardrum.”
