On June 11, buskers invade every room of the Volkshotel to create a street music festival. Coming from all over the world, they enjoy the warm light of the street rather than the bright lights of the stage. As they’re not that much in Amsterdam compared to other touristic cities, a festival has been created especially for them and the public.
Pass the hat!
The entrance is free of charge so you can enjoy from brass to tribal to folk music all the afternoon. Volkshotel is just becoming a street: the artists pass the hat after they played, but passing by is free. According to what you think of the performance, you give whatever you want.
Every taste will be represented there; from ambient / tribal with Khayâl to brass bands with Neutral Ground Brass Band. There’s also the Folk songs of Danish, New-Zealander and Dutch Subterranea Street Society or pop from the twin sisters All The King’s Daughters.More, Capti Rando plays whatever he wants as long as it makes a noise. Also learn more about street music with the documentary “We Took The Streets” by Joost Biesheuvel & Cinema Boudoir, about three of Europe’s most successful street musicians. For a free passing by, you can give a pound.
