About the author
I’ve been a music hoarder all my life and it was I who coined the phrase: ‘Every genre has something to offer’ (patent pending). My main infatuations are House, Disco, Jazz, Funk, Hip Hop and every subgenre in between. As long as the tunes spark up a euphoric feeling. Writing about Music expresses my passion for the art.

Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow your options down by weekly suggesting the events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’.

Thursday: Hidden Gems w/ Cassie 6 @ Sugarfactory

As true Dutch OG DJ, Cassie 6 has been steadily playing the clubs on our soil for nearly 30 years. But having played at the legendary (and since last year lost) Southport Weekender and Ministry Of Sounds, Cassie 6 isn’t a stranger to the international stage either. With experience and a deep knowledge of house music, he’ll be the veteran at Hidden Gems, who invited a DJ like Cassie 6 along with a new breed of young house heads to provide you with a top-shelf underground sound. This time around, Tim Zwerver, Bomas and Lennart are up for the task.

Friday: GTA Soundtrack Party @ Roest

The Grand Theft Auto franchise, aside from bringing us awesome games, is also known for the music played on the varying radio stations. What started out as an innovative addition with cool music interrupted by hilarious skits and commercials, has now expanded to being full-fletched radio shows with artists like Flying Lotus, Roy Ayers and Gilles Peterson as hosts of their specific niche. With every radio station designated to specific genres, there was always something you hadn’t heard prior to playing the game. There were some good gems in there! Friday, Roest is throwing a party in celebration of the music department of Rockstar, the creators of the GTA series, playing records from all the (classic) stations.

Saturday: Esa, Kamma & Masalo @ Studio/K

Esa is a music connoisseur at heart. He contributes much to the global (and local) electronic music culture, whether it be DJing, producing, performing with his (already legendary) band Ata Kak, aiding in the development of electronic music programs in Africa or hosting his biweekly radio show on Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide FM (yes, that same Worldwide FM you saw in the GTA game). The South-African is gonna turn the cozy Studio/K inside out with electronic obscurities. Catch him alongside Kamma & Masalo, the ‘makin-waves-duo’, this Saturday.
