Three women have taken up the old farm building which hosted several activities since 1884, to give artists a chance. They rented flats for them and provide a space for creation. All kinds of art are welcomed in Cultureel Centrum ‘t Fijnhout, from dance to photography. The building will also host many sorts of events, and can be used for small meetings as well as weddings and parties.
New art spot
First and foremost, however, it’s a place for workshops and lectures as an artistic platform. It just re-opened to display the photography department of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy (where the girls all studied) after this renewal and a creative party is thrown to celebrate that.
The Fijnhout has to be a place where exploratory creatives can research, share, fail and learn.
Margherita, Anna and Irina wanted to ensure that the complex would be a sustainable and cultural hotspot to activate artistic and intelligence exchange. Before, it was a steam sawmill built to take advantage of the new trade opportunities. It was used for commercial activities until 2006 when it had its first creative influence. Before the cultural center there was the Foundation Cooperating Companies, to promote the development of new creative companies and music, media, and theater. The melting pot is reinforced now. “The Fijnhout has to be a place where exploratory creatives can research, share, fail and learn,” said Margherita Soldati.
Before SNEAK PEEK the For Sure exhibition will be on display, and live music as well with a piano performance by Joaquin Crestinu from 16:00.
