About the author
I’ve been a music hoarder all my life and it was I who coined the phrase: ‘Every genre has something to offer’ (patent pending). My main infatuations are House, Disco, Jazz, Funk, Hip Hop and every subgenre in between. As long as the tunes spark up a euphoric feeling. Writing about Music expresses my passion for the art.

Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow your options down by weekly suggesting the events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’.

Friday: Brighter Days @ Oosterbar

Aside from residents Kamma and Masalo riding the worldwide musical waves playing all over the world, the Brighter Days events have been quite something too lately. With Osunlade and the Yoruba Soul Orchestra being invited earlier this year, Brighter Days readies for their next installment with a cool cat this Friday: radio host and DJ legend Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy. Having DJd in the golden ’90s era in New York and her over 20 years of experience in the music biz, Colleen Murphy knows her records. She also knows your records. As a matter of fact, she knows everybody’s records, and will give some of your faves a spin (and if she doesn’t, you’ll have new faves by the end of the night). Things are gonna get hot and sweaty for sure, so make sure you wear the proper attire to boogie down.

Saturday: Kraak & Smaak @ Canvas

Kraak & Smaak are one of the Netherland’s under the radar musicians. They’ve been making music for over ten years, always adding that electric funk flavor to their productions and remixes. As DJs their style can be found somewhere between house, funk and disco. The group kicks off a world tour at Canvas this Friday, with supporting acts by Moods. (definitely a dude whose music you should give a listen) and Snacks.

Sunday: A Tribe Called Quest @ Doka

If your mom’s into smooth hip-hop with a jazzy twist, then I’d suggest taking her to Doka on a date for Mother’s Day. The same Colleen Murphy that is DJing at Brighter Days also hosts these events called Classic Album Sundays, which, as you might’ve guessed from the name, plays a classic album front to back on vinyl. This Sunday, A Tribe Called Quest’s legendary album Midnight Marauders is up for a spin. What’s awesome about the Classic Album Sundays is the record will be played on this sick audio system. So grab a lunch with your moms at the Volkshotel and head down to Doka afterwards to enjoy the sounds of Q, Ali, Jarobi & Phife.
