Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow your options down by weekly suggesting the events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’.
Friday: Kommune @ Radion
Get ready for some deep cuts from razor edges techno at Radion. Kommune brings out Kassem Mosse and Interstate. Additionally there’s an awesome live set, with a table stacked to the brim with analog gear and (a lot of) cables. Buddies Scott Franka and Kaap as Working Titles will be presenting beautiful distortions and ill syncopations. Make sure to check out this cool groove by Scott, which I’ve been bumping to for the past week. And of course head honcho Nathan Surreal will be there to smooth off the rough edges with a more ambient sound from Detroit. If you’re a techno head, you’re definitely gonna wanna be here.
Saturday: O.W.A.P. @ Warehouse Elementenstraat
It’s that time of the year again, bring out your inner fool and your love for house music. Only this time it’s even more that time of the year than usual, as O.W.A.P. celebrates 15 years of taking you back to the golden days of warehouse parties and (acid) house music this Saturday. With club Zanzibar legend Tony Humphries headlining, you know it’s gonna get really soulful. With Chicago’s Felix The Housecat roughing things up later, and Danny Rampling putting the acidic icing on the cake, the whole house spectrum is covered.
Get wind of Humpries’ Jersey ound below with one of the best sets I’ve ever heard. The track selection, fast paced mixing and overall vibe are just sublime. Imagine this with in a warehouse filled with signature O.W.A.P. smiley balloons. Imagined it? Great! Then I’ll see you this Saturday!
Saturday: Marshall Jefferson @ Sugarfactory
Alternatively, over at the Sugarfactory, yet another house OG by the name of Marshall Jefferson is celebrating the golden days of the genre with an old school set. He is accompanied by Awanto 3 and Rebelle, and will surely take you back. Where O.W.A.P. is reminiscing the warehouse parties, is the Sugarfactory aiming at club night nostalgia.
