Last fall it was bock beer, but now it’s all about wine. This month there are not one, but two great wine festivals in Amsterdam! As a wine lover I can only applaud to the coming of more food and drink festivals.

Bacchus Wijnfestival

Bacchus Wine Festival was the first wine festival in Amsterdam. After three successful summer editions in the Amsterdam Forest, Bacchus Wine Festival decided to do something new this year. In addition to their summer edition in the Amsterdam Forest Bacchus also hosted a more intimate festival in de Duif last weekend. More than 100 wines were presented by wine shops in and around Amsterdam. It was a low key festival where you could learn more about wine, attend a wine tasting or just drink wine with friends. So be sure to mark June 9 to 18 in your agenda!

Amsterdam Wine Festival

During the Amsterdam Wine Festival the Gashouder is transformed into a wine mecca! Next week it’s time to celebrate the wine harvest of the southern hemisphere. During the harvest festivals farmers traditionally celebrate the safe home-bringing of the grapes and the start of the creative process.

Wines can be tasted directly from the winemakers and importers. Prices start at €3,- at the glass, in addition to “normal” wines you can also taste very exclusive ones. As the Dutch say “a fish must swim” there’s no wine without great food, so during the festival you can enjoy fine wine and food pairings, made by sommeliers and chefs. Let’s be honest: an Argentine ceviche will tastes even more brilliant with matching wine.

Besides tasting lots of different wines, you can also attend workshops. And remember, drink fine wine but don’t overdo it, nobody likes a hangover in the morning.
