With New Year’s Eve around the corner, your weekend’s hangover is already assured. I’ll just point out a couple of events where you can immerse yourself in the music and celebratory vibes. Never mind the hangover, it’ll be next year’s problem.
Thursday: Robert Owens @ Sugarfactory
There’s a new party in town: Hidden Gems. They kick off their first event with none other than Robert Owens. Having cultivated a legendary status, the house DJ, producer and vocalist still knows how to move a crowd. To me, The Statement is one of the best albums, with this one as my favorite. Owens surely knows the hidden gems from the glorious days. He is joined by contemporaries Larry de Kat and Tim Zwerver .
Friday: Palms Trax @ De School
2016’s wonderboy Palms Trax is invited to give a lecture in De School this Friday. Prepare for being lectured on the relationship between music of the old and the new for a couple of hours, as Palms Trax easily blends the two in a warm audible concoction which subsequently results in the chemical reaction of you not being able to stand still. The causation of this is the sounds from Chicago, classic house from New York and modern Lobster Theremin-esque tracks; a perfect mixture between joyful and deep grooves.
Saturday: Project Sugar NYE @ Sugarfactory
Project Sugar is ready to end 2016 with a bang! The Sugarfactory will undergo a transformation, with additional decoration, lights and lofty platforms to dance on. Guti and Mees Dierdorp are playing the decks and tracks to usher in the new year. With techno inclined beats, accompanied with the uplifting vibe caused by the NYE spirit, it provides a great place to spend your evening.
