About the author
Worldly, laid back, and a creative thinker. I like to get involved with musical and creative people. Underground music styles have always been my thing, and where better to explore this than Amsterdam? The city of dreams where I like to keep on dreaming, albeit realistically. Head in the clouds, feet on the ground.

Starting this fall, one of our favorite places in North will be hosting a bunch of live acts at their waterside location every month. Located on the inspiring NDSM wharf, city beach Pllek is well known as a cosy location along the IJ, and this program will only make you appreciate the warm atmosphere that the venue stands for even more than before.

Pllek invites you to come and check out their new programming which kicks off on December 1, with K.O.G. & The Zongo Brigade, Afriquoi and Ibaaku performing that night to set the tone for what is yet to come. What you can expect from the programming is that it will be danceable, ranging from worldly influences to modern-day electronica.

K.O.G. & The Zongo Brigade

Seeing as Pllek is usually seen as a warm and welcoming place, the vibes that will be showcased on this evening will be magical to say the least. Starting with K.O.G. & The Zongo Brigade, this nine-man band, hailing from distant Ghana, will have no problem bringing their West African vibes to Pllek – which will be their debut in the Netherlands! The sound they are known for can be described as a mixture of afrobeat, soul, funk and reggae, also known as ‘Afro Fusion’.

Ibaaku

They are accompanied by Ibaaku, an MC/singer/producer who comes from Senegal. His moniker is the latest in a string of names he has given himself. Ibaaku is an artist on the move, ethereal, propelled by an eclectic and insatiable appetite for sound. His sound can be described as ‘Afro-Hypnotic Experimental’, which promises to make it an interesting evening to say the least.

Afriquoi

They will be followed by Afriquoi, who try and inspire the crowd with their live African dance music.
Afriquoi is an Afro-supergroup based in London, which will enchant the audience with live instruments and vocals during their performance. Their influences range from anything such as soul, afrobeat and zouglou to disco and techno. Seeing as this is a DJ-set, we might not see the live show that might’ve been, but we’ll be sure to witness a broad spectrum of funky music being played this entire evening.
