A bi-weekly Monday mixtape from an Amsterdam-based DJ to kick-start your new week. Archive here.

From the remnants of ’80s synth-pop, Italo disco, electro and proto-house, two eager fanboys decided to join forces for a much-needed revival of an extraordinary chapter in electronic music. The duo only met in the summer of 2015; it was in the decadence of an Ibiza holiday that the two found each other’s musical better half. Their shared love for low fidelity and frighteningly similar record collections soon found them forging a pact called Spoetnik, aimed at shaking up the Amsterdam status-quo and sound. A sound that, in their view, could offer a bit more excitement and weirdness for listeners these days.

Spoetnik laid down an hour-long only vinyl only recording of some of their favorite new purchases.

After performances at various underground events, Spoetnik is getting ready for lift-off. The cheering Overvloed audience after their performance in a packed Canvas left them with an appetite for more. The duo is now shaping up for their gig of the year at Oasis Festival in Morocco, where they’ll be sharing the stage with such acts as Dixon, The Black Madonna, Helena Hauff, Job Jobse and Prins Thomas.

For Mixtape Monday, Spoetnik laid down an hour-long only vinyl only recording of some of their favorite new purchases, plus a couple of gems that rarely escape playtime when given the chance. The records stem from outputs such as Moustache Records, Compost, Bordello A Parigi and Dark Entries.

The Fabulous Druzhba Project is named after one of the duo’s favorite architectural accomplishments, the Druzhba Arena in Donetsk. You can see the building in the cover image above.
