Treasure Hunt is a collaboration between Overdose.am and Schatzoekers Amsterdam. We’ll tell you all about an event or hotspot you absolutely can not miss this month!
After successful editions of the 24H Festival in east, west and south-east, it is now time for the south to be in the spotlights with 24H Zuid! On September 24 you’ve got 24 hours to (re-)discover the south of Amsterdam. For me this is certainly a good occasion to find out more about a part this part of the city; I can occasionally be found in the Vondelpark or the museum district, but besides the obvious highlights there a lot of hidden gems that are waiting to be discovered. So this is where I would go:
Open the door tucked away under the Vondelbrug, and discover the Vondelbunker. Inside you will be surprised to find a haven for musicians and other creative people, and a true breeding ground for independent culture. From 14:00 it is possible to take a tour, but you’re free to have a look around on you own.
Wereldverbeteraars in the Stedelijk Museum
During the exhibition Dream Out Loud artists tell us how they dream about how art can make the world a better and more beautiful place. Can art make people eat less meat, clean the ocean or make pollution and smog disappear? Between 10:00 and 17:00 you can take a free tour every hour. However, you have to register by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. In addition, you also have to buy a ticket for the museum at €15,-. But if you were planning a visit to the Stedelijk anyway this is definitely the perfect moment to go.
Learn Japanese swordsmanship
There’s nothing greater than to try something new! At SHINBUKAN you can follow the workshop aikido from 10:00 to 11:00. From 11:00 to 12:00 you can follow the workshop Shinkendo for a lesson in Japanese swordsmanship. So unleash your inner ninja and challenge somebody to go to battle! Sign up by sending an email to email@example.com.
The secrets of Heineken
The Heineken Experience to me is something like Madame Tussauds and the Anne Frank House. Every tourist ticks the box, but there are very few locals who actually visit these places. So this is your chance! From 10:00 to 11:30 you can even have breakfast on the roof and have a look behind the scenes. Afterwards you have the opportunity to do the Heineken Experience on your own. Then you can finally cross the Heineken Experience off your own list. Please register by emailing to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Beats & Bites at Greenhouse in Okura
Always wanted and eat at the Okura, only to find that the Michelin star restaurants are a little out of your price range? This is the moment to go! From 22:00 to 24:00 there’s a BBQ where you can eat delicious bites for free! There will also be music from 22:00 to 01:00, so maybe you can even do a little dance in these posh surroundings.
