New name, same concept. Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow your options down by weekly suggesting the events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. So here’s where you weekend warriors should go to make it worth your damn hangover.
Friday: De Woon/Kamer #2 @ Studio/K
The festival season is almost over, but the weather is just starting to get summery. It might be a little early, but De Woon/Kamer is already ringing in the club season with a tropical edition. And who could bring sunshine to the clubs better than Philou Louzolo, Chaiba and Strange Fruit? I’m a big fan of Philou Louzolo; the way he combines non-western music and makes it accessible to a wider audience is amazing. Whether they’re percussion heavy tracks from the motherland, or sitar and tabla-infused songs from India, he knows how to package and combine them with today’s house and afro music. It’s definitely worth a listen, so head down to Studio/K to check him and the others out!
Saturday: A Tribe Called Roest invites Break Ya Neck @ Roest
Can they kick it? Yes they can! Roest will be homing some of the best hip-hop from the golden era this Saturday. Break Ya Neck is known for being one of the few who keeps ’90s hip-hop alive. Expect an evening filled with Busta Rhymes, Wu-Tang Clan, A Tribe Called Quest and some classics from the g-funk era, played by DJs from Dutch soil, on a location where the sunlight shines through. Oh, and did I tell you it’s free?
Sunday: Festimi @ Atelier
The cozy Atelier is the perfect spot to either vibe out your weekend or keep the party going. Especially when the evenly cozy Festimi is throwing a party. Add up to those two the sun rays and the tracks provided by Elias Mazian and his friends. Trust me, this will provide you with the most intimate summer Sunday afternoon possible.
