New name, same concept. Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow your options down by weekly suggesting the events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. So here’s where you weekend warriors should go to make it worth your damn hangover.
I could just tell you to go visit Dekmantel this weekend (from Thursday till Sunday) because there’s an amazing roster, but by doing so I’d be half assin’ it. So here are some cool alternatives that are Worth Your Dam Hangover.
Friday: Hakuna Matata @ Chicago Social Club
If you want to boogie down tomorrow, then you should definitely head over to Chicago Social Club. Hakuna Matata is a young organization with a no worry mentality and is celebrating its first year. Headlining the anniversary is yet another legend (and personal favorite) who goes by the name of Joey Negro. This man could single-handedly keep disco-infused house alive. His big ass repertoire spans across more than 20 years of producing. Whether it be a funky rendition of existing tracks, releases on his label Z Records or a freshly composed one with The Sunburst Band; Joey keeps contributing to dance music at large. He’s accompanied by some of the Dam’s finest disco DJs: SHMLSS, Primo Disco and Kremlin Disco. As their names suggest, surely they’ll add some more disco to the vibes.
Saturday: Beesmunt Soundsystem, Anansi & Jackson @ Radion
The boys from Beesmunt are a steady name in the Dutch house and techno scene. Like most, I got familiar with them by their house track How I Wish. But David and Luigi are playing and producing a more diverse collection of tracks, which they’ll showcase this Saturday at Radion. With them, Anansi and Jackson will give the wheels a spin, bringing their sound to the summer nightlife of Amsterdam.
