New name, same concept. Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow your options down by weekly suggesting the events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. So here’s where you weekend warriors should go to make it worth your damn hangover.
Thursday: NightOwls invites Atjazz @ Sugarfactory
Music lovers in Amsterdam really are spoiled, considering that there’s an insane amount of events with an evenly insane amount of legendary musicians and DJs dropping by every other weekend. This Thursday is no exception, since NightOwls invites Atjazz to come and spin the decks red hot at the Sugarfactory. Atjazz’ productions encompass all of my favorite genres; from soulful tracks to deep and electronically influenced bangers. For more than 20 years he’s been steadily producing and delivering good nutrition for the ear. He’ll be accompanied by John Agesilas, who’s released on Atjazz’ label, and Rancido, who really incorporates the dreaminess in electronic music, as the label Innervisions on which he released is known for.
Friday: Buitengewoon @ Cruquiusgilde
Since Cruquiusgilde is forced to close its doors, this Friday might be the best time to go there and party your ass off. If you’re not going for the unique venue (which is simply a small warehouse) or for the vibrant vibes, then you gotta do it for the line up. Buitengewoon hosts the evening starring Dekmantel’s Casper Tielrooij, Red Light Radio’s Orpheu The Wizard and brotherly duo Tenzers behind the wheels. There are still some tickets available here.
Saturday: Georgie’s Wundergarten @ Ruigoord
As mentioned last week, a day at Ruigoord’s town ensures for an exceptional experience. This Saturday Georgie hosts his Wundergarten once more at, and as always there’ll be a lot of side activities surrounding the musical stages to increase the feeling that your actually are in a magical place. Little is known about the performances, but Nightcare is hosting a stage filled with jazz, funk and hip-hop, provided by the likes of Wicked Jazz Sounds, The Soul Snatchers and Kremlin Disko. To get an impression of how it went down last year, you can check out these pics. Let’s hope that the weather will be equally as nice.
Saturday: Speedfreax @ WesterUnie
Speedfreax is a concept which has been around for quite a while now – and still I’ve been unable to go to one. As the name suggests, the BPM at these parties is turned up a notch, with UK garage and close related genres as their main musical genre. I personally love the fast pace of house and garage grooves. This edition centers around the Amsterdam Fashion Week and the DJs will be properly attired by designers. It’ll be a night of Fa Fa Fa Fashion, so start thinking about what kind of extravaganza you’ll be wearing and join the speed freaks!
