For The Record celebrates a year of discovering new music

About the author
I’ve been a music hoarder all my life and it was I who coined the phrase: ‘Every genre has something to offer’ (patent pending). My main infatuations are House, Disco, Jazz, Funk, Hip Hop and every subgenre in between. As long as the tunes spark up a euphoric feeling. Writing about Music expresses my passion for the art.

In an age of everything digital, a lot of creative new services are being invented, like Uber, AirBnB and Spotify. Specifically the music industry could benefit from this. Since we’ve become accustomed to digital audio files like MP3, WAV or FLAC, we’re not dependent on physical copies of our favorite tunes. Despite this fact, there’s a common understanding that vinyl records have been revived and are back for good. Whether this is for the better or for the worse is up to you, but Rick and Peter from For The Record take on a more optimistic approach.

Vinyl fanatics

For The Record is a creative way for people to discover new (and old) music on vinyl. They send their community of vinyl fanatics an album on wax on a monthly basis. They see music not as something we merely listen to, but rather something we experience. This aspect causes music to be inherent to our lives, which is especially true in the contemporary age of digital music. But For The Record sees vinyl as the most suitable medium because it enhances experience. You actively listen and interact with music, which is totally different from listening to your algorithmically prepared recommended list on Spotify.

The awesome part is that you have no idea what kind of album you’ll be getting. For the selection of the album For The Record calls upon a collective of musicians and people working in the music business. This way you’ll be provided with different music every month, ranging from new pop or rock bands to ’70s jazz-funk. Check out the previously selected tracks here. The surprise factor is what makes For The Record unique, but the fact that they also throw in different extras like Hi-Fi accessories, cocktail recipes and handmade artwork only adds to that uniqueness.

This Wednesday For The Record turns one year old. They invite all music lovers to come over and celebrate their anniversary at the Volkshotel. Of course there’ll be some music playing through the speakers, which is provided by Rick and Peter themselves and Rush Hour’s DJ Bonnefooi. Oh and just for the record, they’ll bring along their bags full of black wax, since they’ll strictly be using vinyl.

**WIN** You have a chance to win an album from their archives! All you have to do is comment to this post on our Facebook page and tell us which album should be selected next, and why. The best suggestion wins!
