About the author
I’ve been a music hoarder all my life and it was I who coined the phrase: ‘Every genre has something to offer’ (patent pending). My main infatuations are House, Disco, Jazz, Funk, Hip Hop and every subgenre in between. As long as the tunes spark up a euphoric feeling. Writing about Music expresses my passion for the art.

New name, same concept. Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow your options down by weekly suggesting the events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. So here’s where you weekend warriors should go to make it worth your damn hangover.

You probably expected to see a red-lipped happy face, but from now on you’ll be seeing my frowning face (I’ll do you a favor and update it soon) here. Chloë asked me to take up the baton and provide you the locations to dance the night away and forget about the weekly woes. So as of today, I’ll be guiding you through the weekend!

Thursday: The Factory @ The Sugarfactory

If you’re feeling like dancing your ass off, and starting your weekend early (and therefore your hangover), then the Sugarfactory is the place to be. I love jazz(-funk) influenced music and banging house beats, and Larry de Kat’s Katnip Records incorporates exactly that. Thursday is be the first label night and Larry will bring house heads Malin Genie and Tijn Benedek with him. Larry defines the genre of his label’s sound as ‘Discohiphophousetechnofunkjazz’. He would agree with me when I say that there’s no need for genre clarification, as long as it makes you move. Check out the first eclectic EP of the label down below.

Friday: Nicola Conte @ North Sea Jazz Club

If you’re more into jazz, I’d definitely recommend you to go to the North Sea Jazz Club. Producer/DJ Nicola Conte will be performing a mixture of bossa nova, jazz and samba. He and his band are accompanied by vocalist Zara McFarlane, who will provide some soothing lyrics. He’s one of my personal favorites to emulate the jazzy sound. No matter what time of the year, there are always one or two songs stuck on replay. But Nicola’s tunes are really better when the sun is out. Even though the weather this week wasn’t all day great, you might get some summery sensations down at the North Sea Jazz club this Friday.

Saturday: Midnight City @ Canvas

I never had the chance to go to a Midnight City party, but that might change this Saturday. In celebration of their four-year anniversary, Lay-Far, The Queen & Disco and Vincenzo de Bull will be playing some birthday beats. Lay-Far knows how to blend all my of infatuations in both his tracks and his own productions. I’m a big fan of the sophomore album on Local Talk (one of the best labels out there), which is definitely worth giving a spin. But Midnight City themselves also know you to blend strictly groovy tunes together and it will surely provide a groovy vibe. I’ll be groovin’ my ass off at Canvas.

Groovy Baby
