Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow your options down by weekly suggesting the events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. So here’s where you weekend warriors should go to for next Monday’s hangover.
Friday: Sunglasses at Night @ Closure
“Dance music needs riot girls. Dance music needs Patti Smith. It needs DJ Sprinkles. Dance music needs some discomfort with its euphoria. Dance music needs salt in its wounds. Dance music needs women over the age of 40. Dance needs breastfeeding DJs trying to get their kids to sleep before they have to play. Dance needs cranky queers and teenagers who are really tired of this shit. Dance music needs writers and critics and academics and historians. Dance music needs poor people and people who don’t have the right shoes to get into the club. Dance music needs shirts without collars. Dance music needs people who struggled all week. Dance music needs people that had to come before midnight because they couldn’t afford full admission. Dance music does not need more of the status quo.” – The Black Madonna. She freaking blew me away during Lente Kabinet and she will blow you away at Closure on Friday.
Saturday: Buiten Westen @ Westerpark
This Saturday it’s time for Buiten Westen again, with its iconic balloon tree. When I think back to the previous editions I automatically smile. You can find me at Some Chemistry, Kerri Chandler, Etapp Kyle, Delano Smith, Max Cooper, Petar Dundov, ItaloJohnson and Job Jobse. Daniel Avery, CW/A (Clockwork & Avatism), Gerd, Optimo and Satori are just a few others on the bill. As you can imagine you’ll be in for some serious timetable dilemmas.
Saturday: 33/45 @ Studio 80
33/45 is Tim Hoeben’s club night in Studio 80. 33/45 doesn’t do genres but it does do quality. During 33/45 artists get enough room to show their versatility in music. For the second edition Tim has invited the French Gilb’r who is the label boss of Versatile Records and one half of Chateau Flight. Tim and Elias Mazian will open and close the night with two b2b sessions and 777 Recordings and Tanzmichmal owner Ron Wilson will take care of Studio 2. This is one for collectors, diggers, selectors and music lovers.
