About the author
Excited by adventuring, discovering and exploring everything. If like me, you’re curious and excited about new trends finding their way to Amsterdam- then read on.

Culy has carved a successful digital presence in the Netherlands, providing eclectic recipes, new cooking gadgets, inspiration and trends going on in the food-sphere. They’ve teamed up with The Food Line-up and are going offline for the first weekend of April for a festival, whose programme epitomises the unique mix of flavours, trends and workshops the companies offer.

We wanted a food truck festival, but something really unique, set around exciting concepts.

New flavours, cocktails and fusions

Just like the festival itself, most of its line-up are new concepts. It’s a food truck festival with refreshing focus not only on eating, but on workshops and educating people about all aspects of food – from the first ever pop up butchers (Brandt & Levie), food photography workshops, chocolate tasting, ‘cheese and tea’ pairings, to a premier showing of the new documentary Fucking Perfect about star chef Sergio Herman.

Don’t misconstrue this new concept of foodie festival to be any less fun, there’s a fantastic amount of new flavours, cocktails and fusions on offer. Brandt & Levie are presenting the Best of the Worst, a conceptual hot-dog stand where visitors can have their say online prior to the event. Who doesn’t enjoy a good sausage? There’s a chance to try the infamous Tomato Burger created by chef Moshik Roth, rumoured to be the best veggie burger.

Then there are homages to the London street food and pop-up scene with the likes of The Smoke Room (Braised pork belly, pulled pork and smoky all day breakfasts), the ever controversial Cereal Killers (cereals galore) and newcomers Schnacks, who are introducing exciting new flavour fusion’s like Korean- Mexican tacos and brand new shrubs (vital drinking vinegars and syrups for incredible cocktails) created by Julian Bayuni and The Beef Chief Simon.

BAR BAR’s mantra is to ‘Think global. Drink Local’, so there’s a host of unique outlets to quench the thirst. The Slowtainer embodies the new trend of slow juicing for ultimate health benefits, in not just juices but also coffees. It even becomes a cocktail bar after dark, with emphasis on home-brewed coffee liqueurs. Speaking of liquor -and being English myself- I’m most looking forward to sipping craft ciders all weekend long, which are finally making their debut here!

We wanted a raw, edgy location and we found it at SugarCity.

The festival is located in the sprawling site of the old Sugar Factory, a short drive or train journey from Central Station. Sugar production at the factory has long since stopped, but the events happening there are no less sweet.
