About the author
Born and raised in Amsterdam, lives to dance and dances to live on electronic music, has a small vinyl addiction, appreciates a little sarcasm now and then, thinks musicals are annoying and loves those moments where you lose track of time completely.

It’s that time of year when ADE is starting to feel like a long time ago and it’s not even close to summer and its festival season. Luckily there’s 5 Days Off to help us through these difficult times. For 5 days Paradiso and the Melkweg are the place to be, if you’re into electronic music and dancing the night away that is. Let me give you 5 tips that are worth checking out, that are completely subjective and based on my personal taste.

Official opening and Dorian Concept

If you think that 5 Days Off consists of sweaty club nights only, well, you’re wrong. On Wednesday the festival kicks off at Melkweg Expo with a special exhibition by Anne-Claire Lans. One year ago she made a series about her own (and my) Generation Y. This generation is know to escape in alcohol, drugs and night-life. This year she shot new images with the same theme and expanded her story about a generation that is searching for identity, satisfaction and ultimate bliss. After this music magician Dorian Concept will perform with a live band which sounds really promising.

Melkweg Expo

Structured Industry

This night is not for the faint-hearted. Expect hard, mysterious and sexy darkness in the Melkweg on Thursday. Surgeon, Peter van Hoesen, Trouw resident Sandrien, R.E.D, Jonas Kopp, Anthony Parasole, Jeroen Search and A001 will make sure you won’t be able to stand still, I promise you. I have to get up early on Friday but being a little hungover is definitely worth it.

Resident Advisor films

Resident Advisor is a platform that doesn’t need an introduction, it’s basically the electronic music database that says it all (allright, almost). Melkweg Cinema will show films from the RA the Origins series where the roots of the biggest electronic music stars are tracked the entire week. You can check out films about DVS1 (Black Russian on the background of that trailer just makes me want to dance), Jackmaster, Black Coffee, Move D and Juji & Jordash, and Nils Frahm. An on-topic film can be a pretty nice break from 5 days of dancing.

Bicep, Paul Woolford, Octave One, FunkinEven & more

I think this is my favourite night during 5 Days Off. All of the artists that are performing on Friday in the Melkweg are amazing. As if Bicep wasn’t enough to make me drool. Paul Woolford, who provided the world with that track that everyone played two summers ago that still makes me smile every time I hear it, and Detroit legends Octave One are coming as well. I had the most amazing night in Stattbad in Berlin this January when FunkinEven was playing and I can’t wait to dance to his music again. Furthermore local rockstars Elias Mazian, Tom Trago and Boye are performing as well.

Body & SOUL

House pioneers Francois K, Danny Krivit and Joe Claussell have been hosting the famous Body & Soul nights all over the world for over 18 years now. When I hear ‘deep and soulful grooves’ I’m intrigued. This night will be a mixture of techno, old and new house, dub, African rhythms but tracks from icons such as Stevie Wonder as well. If this doesn’t sound good I don’t know what does. Those of you who were at Dekmantel during ADE two years ago probably know you want to be in Paradiso on Friday.

5 days off

FKA Twigs, Lotic, De Sluwe Vos, Jungle By Night and Philipp Gorbachev among others are playing as well so be sure to check out the entire programme.
