About the author
Born and raised in Amsterdam, lives to dance and dances to live on electronic music, has a small vinyl addiction, appreciates a little sarcasm now and then, thinks musicals are annoying and loves those moments where you lose track of time completely.

New name, same concept. Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow your options down by weekly suggesting the events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. So here’s where you weekend warriors should go to for next Monday’s hangover.

Friday: Is Burning @ Cruquiusgilde

I’ve been told that Cruquisgilde has an intimate vibe that is similar to that in De Verdieping. In fact, supposedly this is the only place in the Dam left where the music, vibe and audience equal Trouw. The warehouse is extremely close to where I live so it’s about time to check it out, I suggest you do the same this Friday. Is Burning was a new gay night at Trouw hosted by Sandrien and Carlos Valdes. Luckily straight people are welcome too, as long if they’re open minded, because Is Burning is all about being absolutely free. Expect nostalgic and futuristic underground house music from from disco and Chicago house, to techno from Sandrien and Carlos. Oh and there’s this pretty cool, even more intimate pre-party initiative at Badhuis Javaplein. See you there?

Friday: HYTE @ Elementenstraat

HYTE has been taking Amsterdam by storm the last couple of weekends and it’s been crazy. This Friday is by far my favourite line-up of the series. This one’s going to be dark and sexy. Berghain resident and Ostgut Ton hero Marcel Dettmann manages to play hard music but stay weird (in a positive way) and funky as well. The same goes for Robert Hood who’ll perform as Floorplan (his track Never Grow Old was ‘the most played underground song‘ during ADE this year and is becoming a classic already). ROD (Benny Rodrigues’s techno alter ego), Ø [Phase], Vril and one of the masterminds behind Dekmantel, Thomas Martojo are on the bill as well.

Saturday: De Ruiskamer @ OT301

I love everything about OT301. I love the graffiti on the walls, I love that it used to squatted in the early days, I love how someone is hired just to make sure you’re quiet outside and I love that you can find everyone there, from smelly backpackers to hipsters. De Ruiskamer is a pretty cool concept where DJ’s are invited to play what they play in their living room which creates some pretty unexpected sets. Expect couches and carpets to make you feel right at home. This one is perfect for chilling and a bit of dance move practice. Stroes, Marcus Thellier de Pocheville, Bloody Mary, Faz, Viktor Palmer, Freddy Spool, Oomboi Lauw, Doka and Akemiö Grey are playing Saturday.
