About the author
Born and raised in Amsterdam, lives to dance and dances to live on electronic music, has a small vinyl addiction, appreciates a little sarcasm now and then, thinks musicals are annoying and loves those moments where you lose track of time completely.

With the Schwarzmann Soirée still freshly carved in my memory I can’t wait for the next Red Bull Music Acadamy event; Bass Camp. This week upcoming artists Jarreau Vandal, Sofie Winterson, Interstellar Funk, Beesmunt Soundsystem, Elias Mazian, Sevdaliza, Garrincha, ANIK, Yung Felix, Kim Spierenburg and Parrish Smith will get into a studio and unleash their creativity to make new music. There are a lot of cool events this week that are open for the public that are worth your while.

Photography at Mary Go Wild

The Mary Go Wild book is one of those that every electronic music lover should have in their bookcase. The store is a dangerous place where I’ve lost a lot of money. Today the RBMA Bass Camp photo exhibition called FOR THE RECORD kicks off there. It will feature amazing portraits of artists such as Kerri Chandler, Nile Rodgers, Modeselektor and Lee Perry. On the kick off Belgium artists LTGL, Kassett and Faisail Chatar will be there as well.

Moritz von Oswald Trio ft. Tony Allen and film night

On the 26th multi-instrumentalists Moritz Van Oswald Trio and Tony Allen will give a special concert in the Melkweg. The trio released a mesmerising release called Fetch in 2012 and Tony Allen is known to be a pioneer in afro beat with funk influences. Before this a special documentary about different phases that musicians experience when they make music will be shown, that was made especially for the 15th anniversary of RBMA.

Club night at Canvasopde7e

What would a RBMA event be without dancing? Not to worry, Canvasopde7e is the place to be on Friday night and the line-up is really something special. No one other than Egyptian Lover (who has been an important artist for the international dance and rap scene), ONRA, James Pants, Comtron and local rockstar Elias Mazian will provide you with bass for the killer view of the 7th floor. Egyptian Lover and James Pants are doing an intimate in-store session at Rush Hour as well earlier on the day.

Henrik Schwarz and Red Light Radio

What’s better than listening to an inspiring person such as Henrik Schwarz while you’re hungover? I couldn’t imagine a better way to spend my Saturday afternoon. This man has basically become an icon and I’ve lost count of all the cool projects he’s involved in. All I know is that he has really impressed me solo, with his interdisciplinary laptop jam and performing with The Dutch Chamber Orchestra during ADE two years ago. The lecture starts at 3PM sharp in the Volkshotel and full = full, so come early to claim a spot. See you in the audience! Oh and after that Red Light Radio will take over. This is going to be some night…
