New name, same concept. Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow your options down by weekly suggesting the events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. So here’s where you weekend warriors should go to for next Monday’s hangover.
Friday: Next Monday’s Hangover @ De Marktkantine
Notice the resemblance between this party and your favourite party guide? Well, that’s because this column was the very beginning of the legendary Next Monday’s Hangover parties when Some Chemistry still wrote it back in the day. For this edition the boys went over to the dark side of deep and hypnotising techno and invited artists that make me drool. Headliner Extrawelt by itself is enough reason to go, but CW/A (Clockwork and Avatism’s live project) and Petar Dundov, one of my personal favourites who blew me away so many times, make it even better. Sutsche will be the joker of the night. They play down-pitched sets that never hit above 100bpm, thus creating slow and sexy magic. Dauwd, Tsepo, Olaf Stuut and Satori (who’s having an intimate album release party here as well) will also perform. I. Can’t. Wait.
Friday: Lingerie Vrijdag @ Doka
Remember last summer when suddenly Speedo’s were the festival must have for men, with local rockstar Sietse Bakker as fashion icon? Well, those days are not over yet. Say hello to Lingerie Friday. An opportunity to have a drink in your underwear before you go out. People that don’t go to the gym or aren’t tanned are allowed to come as well. There’s no better place to drink in your underwear than the intimate ’50s cocktail bar Doka, with a lot of red and leather. Oh and no worries, Raymond van Mil won’t be there. Pants off, beer on. I’m still doubting if it’s a good idea to go, do you dare?
Saturday: ZeeZout @ Undercurrent
I’m just going to come out and say it: I’m a Ryan Elliott fan girl. When I worked 17 hours a day and partied after that, during ADE, I thought I was going to die on Sunday. When I heard Ryan play at Dekmantel his music just gave me this incredible energy boost and he really made my week. I just love that vibe, it’s sexy with a dark twist. He’s one of those artists that plays both downstairs and upstairs in Berghain regularly, which is rare. He’s probably the only one who is able to mix 40 tracks in one hour and still make it sound smooth. The fact that Gerd Janson, Leon Vynehall, San Soda, Tijn Benedek, L’Atelier, Paul Cairo, Nachtbraker, Halve Soul, Erik Sebastiaan and Daan Donk will be there too makes this ZeeZout party even better. See you there?
WhoMadeWho is playing in Radion, it’s time for the awesome Acid Tab in Studio 80 again (hear it, feel it, lick it), Ron Trent is pulling an all-nighter at OT301 and Breakfast Club is celebrating their four-year anniversary this weekend as well. Holla!
