This winter will, once again, be a little less dark. Today marks the beginning of the third edition of the Amsterdam Light Festival, where light sculptures, projections and installations will brighten the canals and the Amstel river in the city centre for more than 50 days. Museums and institutions organize a wide range of light-related activities. Most pieces are specially made for the Amsterdam Light Festival and have never been exhibited before.
Here’s an impression of the 2013-2014 edition:
You can take the walking route through the inner city, or choose to enjoy the festival from the comfort of a boat. Whatever you do, be prepared for a surprising and spectacular view of the city you thought you knew so well. Special thanks goes out to The Guardian, for emphasizing that our city is ‘notable for more than just the red lights.’ Damn right.
The Amsterdam Light Festival will take place from 27 November 2014 to 18 January 2015. The boat route, Water Colors, will take place from 27 November 2014 to 18 January 2015, and the walking route, Illuminade, from 11 December 2014 to 4 January 2015.
