A couple of weeks ago my news feed was bombed with sweaty, naked human bodies. The women held a golden necklace in their mouth with two words: Art Sells. To my surprise this campaign wasn’t Suit Supply, but the cultural institute of Museumnacht. The first question that popped in my head was: why? Not that I’m principally against sexy publicity, but for a renowned event as N8 I think it’s an odd choice. Having said that I really do recommend this artistic werewolf that has so many to show, tell and experience.

Since 1999 museums yearly keep their doors open during this special night. An event with a goal: to stimulate young people to visit museums more often. I don’t know about you, but in my world this event is buzzing every year. The best thing to do is to make a small route you will follow, since it’s always crazy busy and the temperature is a bit too low to stand or ride outside for hours. You can also download an app this year which makes cruising easier.
A few things I would recommend. For a festive start of your night join the opening act of the band Jett Rebel in the Oude Kerk at 18:30. In the Appel Arts Center you can learn more about love, peace and LSD because their night is all about the sixties. Step by the industrial CBK to join the ‘mini festival’ with La Grande Bellezza as theme. Make your personal 3D LEGO-head in Nemo so you can play with yourself from now on. Or become the new Oedipus and learn how to brew your own beer at De Brakke Grond. Visit the Stadsarchief to see photos of Amsterdam rebels and join the Cactus Awards. Finish the night in EYE where Joost van Bellen will close this positive mayhem or dance a little longer on the seventh floor of the Volkshotel. Bonne chance!
