About the author
As a twenty-five year old writer, hummusaddict, night decorator, Master student, secret girlfriend of James Franco and lover of thick books, I totally agree with the saying that wolves don't lose sleep over the opinion of sheep.

You gotta love the weekends of June. The sun kissed Amsterdam, its urbanites and both are more awake than ever. You would almost think the city is starved when you saw the crowds at The Rolling Kitchen last weekend. You might believe in fairy tales again when leaving the magical forest of Lentekabinet or cruising back to the mainland after the last bash of Toren. I hope you recovered from your adventures because the second weekend is about to explode. Personally I like to start early and easy, so I can highly recommend you the modern art exhibition KOPSTUKKEN in a classical house at the Keizersgracht.

No paintings please

Gallery Vriend van Bavink organises a modern art exhibition together with nine other galleries, with only dimensional work. So no paintings, but sculptures, installations and anything else that can stand on land. The artist Roos van Haaften will do something with projections and animal lover Tinkebell is always surprising. Jacques van Poppel and Piet Langeveld will do a live performance and the musician Brendan Walsh is influenced by a genre called ‘classical rave’. And, of course, there will be drinks. Enough reasons for warm up your weekend at this modern exhibition in a royal setting.

Huis met de Hoofden

The building itself is worth the visit. The weirdly named House with the Heads (Huis met de Hoofden) was built by a man with a lot of money and taste in the 17th century. He decorated his residence with the heads of six gods who look like statues themselves. The old skool ‘grachtenpand’ (canal house) contains six floors with high ceilings and wooden floors. My favourite place is the royal garden behind the ground one where sounds of the street are muted. Up for renovation, this is your last chance to enter the historic atmosphere.

Participating galleries besides Vriend van Bavink are Juliette Jongma, Gabriel Rolt, Frank Taal, Torch, Canvas, Roger Katwijk, Reflex, Bob Smit and Paul Andriesse.
