Of course festivals are all around this summer. But instead of letting your hips do the talking, how about using your words? De Balie and de Krakeling combined forces to organise the second edition of Logos Festival. Three days of theatre, speeches, workshops, stories, literature, science and philosophy to celebrate the power of words. Yep, that’s a lot. So here’s a hot-list.
Making New Words
In a time where talking to your friends can be reduced to an emoticon of a smiling turd, it’s about time we start appreciating our beautiful Donald Duck language again. ‘Plofkip’, ‘selfie’, ‘bankbintje’: new words are popping up like mushrooms. And who else than Mister Word Wizard himself, Willy Wartaal, can teach you all about new words? At what point won’t old words suffice, and do we need to think of new ones? Willy will tell you all about it during his workshop ‘Making New Words’.
Lying for Beginners with Maxime Hartman
Remember Rembo en Rembo? Most of you born in the eighties probably do. Their ‘exceptional humour one shelf below the upper’ taught us a lot about useless crap, but also about words (remember Mag dat?!). Rembo Maxime Hartman is still going strong. During Logos Festival he’ll teach his audience how to lie. His workshop ‘Lying for Beginners with Maxime Hartman’ will make you not only a professional, but also a creative liar.
The Willem de Ridder Experience
The Willem de Ridder experience will be the closing act of Logos Festival. This underground phenomenon is radio DJ, master storyteller and Flux artist. Hey gained fame by telling his radio listeners to get in their car in the middle of the night and guide them to a place they’d never been before. Ten thousands obeyed and caused big traffic jams on the highway. Nowadays he tours the country to tell stories. Be warned: this program is strictly on socks.
And there is more, many more. How about an Akwasi concert, hangover brunch with stories, workshop erotic story writing or a course that teaches you who to end any conversation awkward?
WORD.
