Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow down your options by suggesting some events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. Here’s where you weekend warriors should go to for next Monday’s hangover.
Friday: Exploited Label Night w/ Claptone, Kyodai, Shir Khan & Homework @ Dhoem Dhaam Warehouse
Berlin based deep house label Exploited is back in Amsterdam for another love affair. After a 2nd successful ADE showcase last October waiting a full year for the next label get-together was never an option. Therefore 2014 isn’t allowed to start slow: Exploited is back with superstar producer Claptone, live sensation Kyodai, label boss Shir Khan, local boys Homework and new talent The Close Up from Utrecht.
Friday: Wunderbar @ Melkweg
Wunderbar is a concept that grew from the minds of the Bar27 crew. They wanted to create something crazy, something spectacular, something big: a circus for freaks. Rousing music, wild performers and burlesque acts form the world of Circus Wunderbar, a place where everyone can let go and feel completely free. For this edition, they invited deep techno legends Extrawelt, supported by the best of local melody-based house and techno: Arjuna Schiks, La Vondèl, Some Chemistry and ME.N.U.. Probably everybody’s best friends in the scene.
Saturday: ZeeZout @ Undercurrent
Our friends from the ZeeZout factory are back in town for another one of their get-togethers at the unique venue called Undercurrent. For the first ZeeZout edition of the year they’ve invited a killer line-up to represent the house and UK sounds that we like in this city. Who are we talking about? How about Move D, Tama Sumo, San Soda, DJ Rahaan and local heroes Brent Roozendaal, Steven Pieters, L’Atelier, Tijn Benedek, Elias Mazian (artist), Paul Cairo and Erik Sebastiaan. Daytime parties, gotta love them.
Saturday: NGHTDVSN @ Roest Warehouse
On Saturday the 15th of February NGHTDVSN reunites with their beloved warehouse at Amsterdam Roest. This stunning venue is arguably one of Amsterdam’s most atmospheric warehouses with an amazing raw industrial feel to it. Catch up with NGHTDVSN, bringing the best of cutting-edge and innovative music. Familiar faces Max Cooper and Gabriel Ananda are back with new live-sets supplemented by new artists, such as John Tejada and Ripperton. Residents Terry Toner and Some Chemistry will provide the much needed dose of local support, as always.
Saturday & Sunday: Life and Death Weekender @ Trouw
Life and Death has a peculiar concept. The music in most cases hovers around a dark pop and house approach with a definite psychedelic sensibility; soulful dance vibes with little pieces of a post-rock attitude. It’s a concept that might seem less peculiar after exploring the eclectic musical backgrounds of its founders Manfredi Romano (aka DJ Tennis) a longtime soundtrack producer and Greg Oreck, one half of New York house duo Thugfucker. And after just two releases it’s a sound that’s quickly finding its way into the bacchanalian fray of some of the best parties worldwide. This weekend, they have the whole weekend for themselves at Amsterdam’s favourite club, Trouw.
