Think naked girls and neon lights. Now this initial thought might give you the wrong impression, but it’s what the new expo at Walls Gallery is packed with. Last weekend was the opening of Things Could Be Better, a duo show by Sander Dekker and ROYALSTEEZ. And it’s definitely one to check out on your afternoon off.
From ludicrously decked-out limousines to cuddly sharks in bathtubs, Sander’s photographs are a lot more than blunt nudity.
Sander Dekker recently spent two weeks in London, cameras blazing. He just wanted to shoot, shoot and shoot. Walls is filled with new work and it’s clear to see this man has truly taken his work to a higher level. From ludicrously decked-out limousines to cuddly sharks in bathtubs, Sander’s photographs are a lot more than blunt nudity. I like it!
The neon lights part of the expo is the work of no other than ROYALSTEEZ. I interviewed him quite a while back (Part 1 & Part 2) and it’s great to see that Brian is also back with some very impressive new installations. It’s very interesting to see how he challenges himself, balancing between serious art and unpretentious comedy. My personal favourite would have to be his video installation Wishing Well. Playing this as a background-DVD would be so much cooler than an aquarium or roasting fireplace…
