Too many plans for the weekend? Let me narrow down your options by suggesting some events where you can meet, dance and drink with Amsterdam’s finest crowds. After all, ‘a hangover ain’t worth the pain if the party is lame’. Here’s where you weekend warriors should go to for next Monday’s hangover.
Friday: SOMEWHERE ELSE @ OT301
This Friday Huerco S, Vondelpark and Malawi will be somewhere else. Actually, they’ll be somewhere else at OT301. All together. Huerco S is categorised as ‘outsider house’, the latest dance music sub-genre to cause excitement and consternation in equal measure among the message board cognoscenti. Call it what you want, but a ‘different’ kind music is key for this edition, which is always exciting.
Saturday: CARTEL 3 YEAR ANNIVERSARY w/ SAN SODA & RED D @ Studio 80
Cartel has been wandering around Amsterdam throwing parties since 2010 at numerous clubs, squats, squares, sheds and beaches. There was even a festival last year called Vrijland (in collaboration with Amsterdam Roest), and the end of all this beauty is still nowhere in sight. Why are we reminiscing? Because they’re celebrating their 3rd year of existence this Saturday! For the occasion they invited some friends of the show; San Soda (BE), Red D (BE), Frits Wentink, Tijn Benedek and Willem. Prepare for a big celebration, including an official after hour at the Amstelhaven.
Saturday: Atomnation label showcase w/ Weval, David Douglas, Breek, Applescal @ OCCII
This Saturday the 23rd of November, Atomnation is hosting an intimate label show case at OCCII. Weval, David Douglas, Applescal and Breek will represent the label’s sound for the night and Guido is on warm up duties. The idea is for everybody to play some new work to welcome y’all in this unusual cosy small concert hall. Go support one of the coolest labels out there, these guys are doing something everybody should appreciate, complicated music with stories. Enjoy the hangover.
Saturday: RUSH HOUR ON & ON WEEKENDER @ Trouw
Finally, this weekend’s grand finale. This Saturday at 11 pm Rush Hour’s 30+ hour roller coaster in Trouw will commence. Throughout these 2½ days, the Amsterdam based label will take us from disco to jacking Chicago and Detroit house and the American noise from Brooklyn. I’m not even gonna start naming everybody who will be involved.. Okay, just a few then: Sadar Bahar, Tom Trago, Antal, Kyle Hall & Jay Daniel back-to-back and Ron Morelli. Get your energisers together, as this is going to be a loooong one. See you back on Monday, or Tuesday.
