Most of you probably know Henrik Schwarz from his huge electronic anthems Walk Music or Leave My Head Alone Brain, but the German DJ/producer actually has much more up his sleeve than just beats and bangers. His music is always infused by jazz and other worldly influences, and he loves to collaborate with artists from other musical worlds. Two years ago he made a full album with Norwegian jazz pianist Bugge Wesseltoft, this October at Amsterdam Dance Event he had Het Nederlands Kamerorkest play his compositions in Het Concertgebouw, and now it’s time for another smooth-as-silk collaboration; one with avant-garde pianist Hauschka.
Volker Bertelmann, or Hauschka, is well known for his work on prepared piano; a piano that is prepared with objects and materials between the strings or on the hammers and dampers to alter the sound and timbre to fit your needs. Interesting stuff, and combining it with another progressive musician can only result in something even greater, is what the people of Young Pianists Festival must have thought. During their 10-day festival, one of the highest anticipated nights is exactly this: Henrik Schwarz + Hauschka: Scripted & Prepared.
World Première
With this world première, it’s hard to know what to expect exactly. However, seeing that both musicians on their own are considered quite the brilliant gentlemen, their coming together will surely be something special. Tickets will sell out within a few days, judging by the small amount of chairs still available in the ticket shop, so act quick. If you’re too slow, don’t fret, the rest of the festival is definitely worth checking out too.
